theSkimm’s “GSD” (or Gets Stuff Done) team is a small, nimble group of resourceful, quick thinking individuals who strive each day to make the lives of Skimm HQ’rs happier and more productive. Made up of Finance, HR & Recruiting, Operations, and Communications, this team is on the frontlines in supporting the wider organization in projects large and small. Often seen hustling around the office, the GSD team ensures our environment and culture is top notch and continuously improving.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As our Communications Specialist, you will support the creation, implementation, and execution of communications strategies that help spread the word about our amazing products. You will contribute to the development of new initiatives and support the team in sharing our message. This role involves:
- Working cross-functionally and collaboratively with Skimm HQ teams to pitch key initiatives, leveraging both traditional and non-traditional channels to elevate the brand and reach new audiences
- Developing media lists and securing close working relationships for theSkimm with key editors, reporters, and producers at relevant trade and national media outlets
- Researching, pitching, and coordinating talent and influencers for theSkimm’s audio and video and promoting completed projects
- Monitoring media coverage and tracking industry trends to help inform communications strategy
- Developing high quality written material, messaging, and briefings to support press interviews
- Assisting on special projects/events and maintaining internal communications resources
WHAT WOULD SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
- 2+ years of experience in public relations or corporate communications role
- Bachelor's degree, focus in Communication or Journalism preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong eye for detail
- Time management and prioritization skills, with an ability to work quickly under pressure and handle shifting priorities
