Marketing used to be an exercise in one-to-many communication: billboards, magazine ads, and - more recently - having a powerful social media presence.

At Custora, we’re helping turn this model on its head, using mountains of data to help our customers direct the right campaigns to the right users rather than blasting the same message to the largest audience possible.

We're moving at a rapid pace, taking on bigger customers every day and increasing the amount of data we collect by several orders of magnitude. As we leap into the next phase of our growth, we need storytellers who are motivated to make our product come to life for future customers.

We're looking for talented marketers to come in at the ground level and help take our marketing activities to the next level. You will be joining a small team that moves fast and you'll own a substantial portion of our marketing program. You will play a significant role shaping the team's future, and you'll have the opportunity to grow with the team and the company.

How you might spend a typical day:

  • Content Strategy: You will be the editor-in-chief at Custora, and will establish the content strategy that we will use to attract prospects in our account-based marketing activities. You will create monthly editorial calendars based on important themes that are relevant to our business and of interest to our prospects and customers. You will be in regular contact with customers, sales team members, success team members, our tech team, and others in the industry to stay on top of trends, issues, and potential topics of interest (and you'll be looking for case study ideas when you speak with our customers!).
  • Writing: You will be writing blog posts, whitepapers, web content, and nurture/prospecting emails. Your writing will become the "voice" of Custora. Writing interesting and compelling stories has to be both your passion and skill.
  • Project Management: You will be coordinating the efforts of both internal and external design teams as you build out our content assets.
  • Results Tracking and Optimization: You'll be monitoring the impact of your content very closely, measuring prospect and customer engagement, social sharing, and the impact of campaigns utilizing your content.

Qualifications (Or what we're looking for):

  • 3-ish years experience
  • A degree in English or Journalism a plus
  • Writing and Content Creation Experience: You have great respect for words - both written and said. You probably think this job post is too long, and you might have a few suggestions on how to trim it down. You know how to explain complex concepts in clear, pithy prose. You've also had experience beyond just writing but creating a finished content marketing piece.
  • Organization and deadline orientation: You hate the thought of anything slipping through the cracks. Maybe you had a slipping-through-the-cracks experience in second grade when you forgot it was your day for Show & Tell, and the memory still haunts you. Spreadsheets, checklists, and words such as “thorough” are your comfort food. Your desk is probably organized, and it probably confuses the heck out of you that some of your friends find ways to be productive in a state of disorganized chaos.
  • E-Commerce, digital marketing, and retail industry experience (or burning passion): You have worked in e-commerce or digital marketing in the past, and you love the space. Maybe you've even been a journalist covering digital marketing technology for a retail industry trade publication. Or you're a writer/creative director in a creative agency that works with retail clients. If you haven't yet, you've been following it in the news, or perhaps as a consumer, and you're looking forward to immersing yourself professionally in all things online shopping. When you hear Bonobos, you think monkeys -- wearing colorful pants.
  • Resourceful and gets stuff done: You have a way of making things happen even if it seems impossible - like pulling off a home-cooked dinner party for 30 people with 45 different dietary restrictions at your place at a week's notice - while making it all seem easy.
  • Content Marketing: You've created content that is used to attract and convert prospects, and have worked closely with a sales and customer success team.

What it’s like to work here:

  • On Monday we eat and meet as a team to chat projects and progress.
  • We’re 45 genuinely nice people. We work together and experiment with how to do things. It’s an amazing environment to both explore your professional interests and shape your career trajectory.
  • We move quickly. You build something and the next day it comes to life. You see and feel an immediate impact with the collective efforts of the team.
  • We’re building a company and a team we love. We’re in it for the long run.
