VICE News is looking for a reporter to cover civil rights in our digital newsroom.

The ideal candidate should have a track record of reporting on topics like civil rights, the law, policing, extremism and covering underserved communities, as well as the ability to dig information out of intransigent bureaucracies. We’re looking for someone who is aggressive and obsessed with getting new information into the world and who wants to tell stories in creative ways. This is a multimedia newsroom, and this position requires at least an interest video, audio, and multimedia formats. Experience in those formats is preferred.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Producing consistent and distinctive reporting including explainer, enterprise reporting, and investigative formats
  • Communicating and collaborating with VICE News’ TV, digital video, and audio teams
  • Collaborating on ambitious multimedia projects 
  • Reporting from the field


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 4 years of reporting experience, preferably covering civil rights
  • Proven experience delivering scoops and differentiated coverage
  • A clear idea of the stories that matter on this beat and some idea how to attack them
  • An aversion to clichés and boring writing
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Familiarity with social media is a plus, as is a desire to work in a variety of formats
