The Role

The Content Business Development Associate will own a portfolio of topic areas and regions to prospect, outreach to, negotiate with, and sign new content partnerships (e.g. Bloomberg, The Guardian, etc.). You will also have a direct hand in shaping the future roadmap of Newsela’s content. As our business and market needs grow, you will make available the content that students ultimately see. Reporting to the Director of Content Business Strategy, you will work closely with the Business Development lead and others on our Content team to ensure that Newsela is partnering with the best content partners in the industry.

Why You’ll Love This Role

From determining the future of what students read, to negotiating with big name organizations, to securing new partnership deals, you will own an enormous piece of the end user’s experience. The deal you close one week may directly result in thousands of students reading an article from that partner the following week. Your work will directly affect how teachers and students interact with Newsela, and in turn help deepen the impact of our mission to make reading accessible and engaging for all learners.

Why We’ll Love You

You have 2+ years of experience in an external-facing role, whether it be in consulting, business development, partnerships, content licensing/acquisition, or sales. You have built a robust, well-documented pipeline of prospective partners or clients. Navigating networks to reach (and elicit a positive response from) a cold contact is a challenge you eagerly accept. You have honed your written and verbal communication skills. Further, you excel in a style of negotiating that forms a foundation for long-term partnership, whether it be via an email with a nonprofit education coordinator or via an in person meeting with C-suite leadership. You’re seasoned in gaining cross functional buy-in for your strategy from the data team to the editorial team. Experience in education, content licensing, or media is a plus!
