The Role:

As a Content Acquisition Associate, you’ll be responsible for identifying the best educational content, and securing licensing partnerships to bring that content in front of Newsela users. We publish a lot of great text content, and you’ll be responsible for making sure our editorial team has the best options available through leading the charge in new text licensing outreach. You’ll also build up systems that make our text licensing processes more efficient and scalable, and will lead the work to organize myriad sources of licensing information into a single source of truth. You’ll also take on new partner discovery for intriguing partnership opportunities that don’t directly align to our planned content roadmap. Increasingly, we’re sourcing content from “non-partners” -- publications that we don’t have a formal licensing partnership with. This person will be responsive to editorial needs, and persistent in tracking down permissions from a wide variety of non-partner sources. This work will directly support content initiatives like our Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism content push.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Reporting to the Vice President of Content Acquisition & Strategy, you’ll work cross-functionally with our Editorial, Instructional Content, and Finance teams and will coordinate across our Product team on a daily basis. This role will be directly responsible for bringing engaging, representative content to K12 classrooms. This role will impact what millions of students read in their classrooms everyday. Your work will not only directly support long term product vision - it will help drive accessibility in education. This role is also a fantastic opportunity for a jack-of-all-trades who can jump between thinking about the articles our users will love and Newsela’s strategic vision. You’ll be on the pulse of current media, and will get to work with innovative publications every day.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have 2+ years of experience in an external-facing role, whether it be in consulting, business development, partnerships, content licensing/acquisition, business affairs, or sales. You have demonstrated success managing and streamlining complex processes, and can skillfully navigate challenging conversations to arrive at a solution. You’re highly organized and able to juggle a multitude of conversations with several different potential partners without missing a beat. Ideally, you also have experience pitching new ideas, negotiating long-term partnerships, and driving prioritization across multiple stakeholders to maximize the highest value work. While not required, experience in education, content licensing, or publishing is a plus. You’re not afraid to get on the phone, and even cold call, licensing agents to get Newsela the content we need. And you’re a lover of great content; you’re excited to read and have an eye for picking out the best content for our users.
