We're hiring an Editor to join our upcoming Parenting vertical.
About our team and what we'll build together
This person will be responsible for helping to develop the tone, vision, and content strategy for this vertical, and then leading the ideation and execution of that content on a daily basis. This person will be heavily involved in developing the section POV; launching new initiatives, franchises, and content packages; and overseeing brainstorming, assigning, editing, fact-checking, and publishing of daily content. This position provides the opportunity to be part of an exciting growth area for the company, and will report into the Senior Editor of Content Development.
How you'll contribute to our mission

• Working with editorial leaders to continue to develop theSkimm's unique perspective on parenting content for millennial women
• Editing a consistent output of parenting content written in the format and tone of theSkimm.
• Project-managing daily, weekly, and monthly parenting content initiatives across multiple platforms
• Working with the news, video, audio, and social teams to maintain a cohesive voice for parenting content across all Skimm platforms
• Collaborating with the sales and branded teams to incorporate our parenting content into existing and new revenue streams
• Using data from the insights and analytics teams to assess content performance and plan strategically for audience engagement and growth

You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

• 5+ years experience writing or editing parenting content specifically
• A strong interest in and understanding of a broad range of parenting topics, and an ability to stay abreast of and interpret emerging studies and news about kids and parenting
• Excellent journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
• Strong experience with original reporting, including sourcing and interviewing experts to create authoritative, data-backed content that helps readers navigate complicated topics.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
• Experience crafting promotional packaging for content (think: email plugs, social posts, etc.)
• Experience using audience and traffic data to inform content strategy and drive growth
• Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments
• Ability to write in theSkimm's voice
• Passion for theSkimm and its mission
• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience mentoring writers on journalistic and reporting best practices
• Experience building a team
• Experience implementing SEO best practices
• Background working on newsletters

What about the office?
This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work.
Our office is available to use three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of three days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York and will adjust this plan accordingly.
We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations and will also require additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
