Editorial Assistant, News
The Role
The Editorial Assistant role is one of the foundations of daily leveling production at Newsela. You will source, load, and edit stories, working closely with freelancers and staff members on the Content Team to produce dozens of high-quality articles each week. In addition to general editorial support (sourcing content, editing, QAing, publishing, and assessing potential content partners), you will help train, onboard and provide feedback to freelancers, maintain Newsela’s editorial guidelines, and ensure that all news and nonfiction texts are appropriately leveled down for different reading levels.
Why You'll Love This Role
You're looking for opportunities to grow your editing and digital content production skillset and become a pro at student-facing content curation. You want to be at the center of a rapidly growing company that is changing the way content is offered in classrooms.
Why We'll Love You
You’ve put your Journalism, English, or other relevant degree to good use with at least one year of experience working at a newspaper, magazine, or digital publication. You have a strong knowledge of AP Style. You are organized and know how to prioritize your time; you don't need to sacrifice quality for speed, or speed for quality. Communication is your strong suit; you can effectively deliver feedback and assess what needs to be done to meet a deadline. You know how to use your keen editorial eye to produce high-quality content across a variety of subject areas.
