Editorial Assistant
Newsela is an Instructional Content Platform that combines engaging, leveled content with integrated formative assessments and insights to supercharge engagement and learning in every subject. Students and teachers use Newsela to find digital content from hundreds of the best sources—from National Geographic to NASA, Biography.com to Encyclopedia Britannica, the Washington Post to the Wichita Eagle. Content is instructionalized to meet students where they are, with interactive tools and analytics to take them where they want to go. Newsela has become an essential solution for schools and districts, with a presence in over 90% of U.S. K-12 schools. Newsela is the content platform for the connected classroom.
The Editorial Assistant is the foundation of daily leveling production at Newsela. They load, edit and source stories and images, working closely with freelancers and staff members on the Content Team to produce dozens of high-quality stories each week.
Responsibilities:
- Top edits at least 1 article per day with review
- Fact-checks when needed
- Adheres to AP style and Newsela Style Guide
- Sources stories for the website that will meet curriculum needs and engage students
- Loads at least 3 stories with beautiful images per day
- Pushes articles through the wire
- Does QA checks on headlines and first paragraphs from stories each day
- Provides helpful, detailed feedback for levelers
Requirements:
- Journalism, English or relevant degree from a 4-year university
- At least 1 year of experience working at a newspaper, magazine or digital publication
- Knowledge of AP Style
