The Role:

If you have a passion for creating interactive experiences designed to make learning interesting, then Newsela’s editorial team wants you on our team. As an Editorial Production Lead, Interactives, you will be responsible for coming up with dynamic, visual solutions by curating, creating and editing interactive content for one of the most promising learning products in the K-12 education space. This position is first and foremost for an innovative creator of interactive experiences designed to enhance learning, though you are also a project manager and enthusiastic collaborator with other members of the team. Your goal is to create and elevate Newsela’s world-class news, science, ELA, and social studies interactive media that makes use of our videos, infographics, maps, text content and more for K-12 classrooms across the U.S. We value authentic content that creates opportunities for teachers to be culturally responsive, encourages students to think critically, and explains complex concepts with ease.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

This role allows you to participate and help lead one of Newsela’s most ambitious and exciting projects to date. You’ll brainstorm with your manager, other multimedia staffers, product managers, engineers, designers and members on the instructional content team around initiatives that can help enable our interactive media to support learning needs for teachers and  students. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring educators are equipped with the content and tools necessary to deliver representative, culturally responsive instruction that is accessible and engaging for all learners. Also this material should be able to be measured with assessments (that you can help develop) to help deepen student understanding.

Why We’ll Love You:

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have 7+ years of experience creating engaging interactive assets focused on learning, cultural or the youth edutainment spaces. Maybe you worked for a museum, maybe you’ve worked on a learning game. You have the ability to conceptualize original interactive experiences, collaborate with stakeholders, source content (such as stock footage), and quickly learn new software. Familiarity with video software (like the Adobe Suite) or design software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc) is a plus. Spanish-language skills are always a plus!

You understand the education landscape well enough to be able to describe how your previous working experience could enhance it and can leverage your attention to detail and editorial judgement to deliver thoughtful, well-balanced interactive content that serves the needs of K-12 students studying ELA, social studies and/or science. Your interpersonal skills are unmatched and you can make decisions with ease, helping us make thoughtful and clear judgment calls.

About Newsela:

One of the fastest growing tech companies in K-12 education, Newsela was founded on the principle that while every child may have unique learning preferences, they all deserve a rich learning experience that ignites a love of learning. We built our platform based on learning science research to deliver the most engaging, authentic content to modernize how teaching happens in the classroom.
