theSkimm is looking to hire an Evening Editor to join our PM editorial team. The current editorial team is a collaborative group who come from traditional media backgrounds. They understand how to write, shape, and edit high-quality journalism while putting it in theSkimm’s distinct voice. This Skimm'r would be working closely with the newsletter editor, and other editorial members.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

This role will be focused on editing the Daily Skimm newsletter. Hours will be afternoon - night based.

  • You will pick up from the newsletter editor to edit and publish the newsletter. You will be one of the last pairs of eyes to see the Daily Skimm before it goes out.
  • You’ll be proofreading. You are always thinking with a fact-checking lens.
  • You will be dealing with breaking news situations and adjust the newsletter as appropriate
  • You will be working to create, research, and edit additional editorial projects (Skimm Notes, content campaigns, guides, etc.)

WHAT WOULD SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

  • 4-6 years experience in a traditional and breaking newsroom environment is essential..
  • Ability to keep a calm head when news breaks
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Proven ability to write in theSkimm’s voice
  • Passion about the company and its vision
  • Ability to be a self-starter AND a collaborative team player
  • Bachelor's Degree
