The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for a Lead Producer to lead the editorial arm of the Affiliate Video team. You will be overseeing a pod of freelance producers creating social-first shopping content that feels organic to our editorial brands, focusing on cracking new affiliate video formats, series, and affiliate revenue opportunities. We’re looking for a leader with a keen eye for identifying seamless product opportunities who can speak authentically to the BuzzFeed audience, though previous affiliate experience is not required. You should be well versed in what makes a video succeed across various social platforms, and how to give teammates guidance and feedback that takes their content to the next level. This role will also include producing midform content and supporting platform partnerships like shoppable Snapchat shows. This role reports to the Executive Producer of Affiliate Video and is based in New York or Los Angeles.

You Will

  • Lead a team of 3-5 editorial producers, advising on creative direction, workflow, production support, and distribution
  • Help build and maintain affiliate editorial strategy and manage the team’s monthly content slate and budgets, including projected success, tentpole opportunities, and costs
  • Lead brainstorms, mentor producers, and give relevant creative notes and final approval on videos with team and other partners
  • Pilot new formats and series across BuzzFeed’s biggest channels like Tasty and Nifty that feature products and inspire our audience to shop
  • Build out a talent roster featuring both internal and external Creators to produce fresh new shows and one-offs around their skills and interests
  • Work closely with the EP of Affiliate to help set and maintain measurable performance and conversion KPIs for each producer that fit into broader team and org goals
  • Partner with social to collect and digest team performance and output data to inspire future ideation and prove out success
  • Help create a content flywheel for the commerce and sales team, creating impactful formats and successes that can contribute to new revenue for the business
  • Develop low-lift models for creative video production that help create a flexible organization to increase output volume, including livestreaming and blockshooting
  • Liaise with editorial teams to share learnings and advise on internal affiliate video projects, finding ways to increase passive income
  • Track and identify trends on social platforms to inspire shareable affiliate content, keeping team and org informed of learnings
  • Identify when an area of focus isn’t working and pivot

Part of what makes BuzzFeed a pioneer in digital media is our commitment to exploring new ventures that lead to spreading truth and joy. As such, you may be asked to share your knowledge with your colleagues through presentations or trainings, to screen and interview job candidates, or to take part in recruitment or networking events on behalf of the company.

You Have

  • Experience leading a content team to produce live-action video content for a variety of social platforms
  • Experience building production processes and workflows to enable output efficiencies
  • Experience working with and brainstorming around talent
  • Interest and/or background in working with products and review content
  • Ability to ideate around livestreams, live-to-tape content, and short form content
  • A passion for video metrics and the competitive instinct to ideate on your own success
  • You are self-motivated, immensely curious, highly adaptable, and able to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Experience or interest in lifestyle content is a plus
