Flatiron Health is a healthcare technology and services company focused on accelerating cancer research and improving patient care. Our platform enables cancer researchers and care providers to learn from the experience of every patient. We believe that existing clinical research paradigms are ill-equipped to answer the research questions that face drug developers, academic researchers, and regulators in the oncology space today. By focusing on technology solutions that can be deployed widely across the Flatiron network of providers in both community and academic settings, Flatiron Health has the opportunity to generate insights that were previously impossible. We have active partnerships with top-tier academic medical centers, the leading 15 oncology biopharma companies, FDA, and NCI, all focused on using data to accelerate cancer therapeutic development.

Our Research Oncology team is looking for a Director of Research Oncology Publications to lead our growing publications team and drive Flatiron’s publication strategy. The Director will oversee and coordinate the strategic plan for scientific publications across Flatiron’s research organization. This position requires team building and people management skills, leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, a collaborative spirit, a sophisticated understanding of oncology clinical and outcomes research, and operational experience. This position will also require extensive cross functional collaboration within Flatiron and with external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of the medical writing and publications team with a focus on evolving the structure to serve the team’s growth and the company’s objectives.
  • Manage and develop team members as well as internal processes and procedures.
  • Lead internal cross-functional research teams to develop, manage and execute Flatiron’s publication plan. This will involve the timely and efficient development and submission of research manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific meeting presentations.
  • Closely partner with our cross-functional Research team, which includes Research Oncologists and Quantitative Scientists, to communicate objectives and translate internal research into high-impact publications.
  • Use scientific and research expertise to support strong working collaborations with both internal and external experts to ensure quality data analysis, interpretation, and communication planning.
  • Manage a portfolio of multiple publications and timelines in parallel and prioritize tasks across teams based on comprehensive judgement of trade-offs.

About You:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree is required. Advanced degree such as MBA, MHA, MPH, MS, PhD or MD is a plus
  • A minimum of 8 years of medical writing experience, preferably at a life sciences company, pharmaceutical/biotech company or CRO.
  • Experience in managing a team of direct reports
  • Superb project and publication management skills, and familiarity with publication processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, inform, negotiate and collaborate
  • Can work independently to manage manuscript life cycle, which includes developing key objectives and timeline, followed by developing outlines, writing drafts, and resolving co-author inputs, escalating to key stakeholders as needed
  • Must quickly develop a firm scientific understanding of the oncology space
  • Flexible, with a positive attitude, strong ability to multi-task, prioritize projects effectively and communicate at all levels within the company
  • High-level familiarity with the drug development and regulatory approval processes
  • Working knowledge of ICMJE/AMA/APA guidelines
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to teach and learn
  • Strong interest in leveraging real-world evidence to advance personalized medicine

Bonus Points

  • Oncology experience
  • Health outcomes research experience
  • Experience working in a client service capacity with life science companies
