Your New Role...
The Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing CNN Business' breaking news team and directing coverage of each day's most important news stories and analysis about the world's most consequential corporations. The Managing Editor will lead a team responsible for coordinating essential breaking business news assignments across CNN Business and the broader CNN audience and network. In addition, the Managing Editor will maintain and grow CNN Business' audience and revenue by overseeing a team responsible for covering stocks, business leaders, brands and products the world's technology, consumer and transportation companies that consumers interact with most. The Managing Editor will be an essential partner to other business leaders as well as to CNN's other global news teams and must be skilled at building relationships across teams. The ideal candidate must love business news, with a particular enthusiasm for corporate strategies, consumer brands, technology, transportation, products, business leaders and news makers, as well as broader business news topics, including markets and economic news.
Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Direct coverage for CNN Business' breaking news stories and companies reporting and oversee teams of senior editors, news editors and writers responsible for maintaining a 24/7 business news operation.
  • Coordinate coverage with team leaders and writers on the Business team as well as other writers, producers, reporters and correspondents across CNN.
  • Edit work that is published and shared across CNN's mobile and desktop sites, apps, social accounts and other platforms.
  • Develop an editorial strategy for shaping story ideas and angles around complex topics so CNN Business can frame stories that explain complicated financial information for a general news audience.
  • Serve as a partner to team leaders, implementing distinctive editorial plans for top stories, news analysis and features.
  • CNN's managing editors must be excellent communicators and diplomats. They are excellent providers of feedback who help elevate CNN's storytelling across a wide range of digital platforms.
  • Be skeptical, but not cynical - be genuinely excited by the changes and disruptions to the US economy and beyond, but also ready to take a critical look at why those changes are taking place.
  • And last but never least: Editors are often the final step before a story goes to CNN's programming team to get distributed to millions of people worldwide; all editors work intently to make sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences.


Qualifications & Experience...

  • 7+ years of digital experience
  • College degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Expert knowledge of and passion for business and financial news
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities
  • Outstanding editorial judgement
  • Exceptional communication, team collaboration skills
  • This position is required to work in person at one of our locations in the United States. WarnerMedia requires anyone working in our workplaces in the U.S. to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Legal Bits...
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $151,760.00 - $281,840.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
