BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed is the world’s leading independent digital media and tech company, with a cross-platform news and entertainment network that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally and spreads Joy and Truth across the internet.

Our portfolio of brands are household names that people rely on to inform and entertain, including: BuzzFeed, BuzzFeed News, Tasty, Nifty, Bring Me, Cocoa Butter, Pero Like, Worth It, and Unsolved to name a few!  These properties and their Creators reach over 134M people a month through articles, lists, videos, animations, quizzes, podcasts, original series, newsletters and more.

The Role

BuzzFeed News is looking for a smart, thoughtful, experienced writer who is an absolute geek about newsletters. This person will be the voice behind Incoming, BuzzFeed News’ daily and influential morning newsletter, which reaches almost 200,000 readers daily. When not writing Incoming, you will work on building a strategy around retaining and growing audiences for all of our newsletters and strategically launching new offerings.

You Will

This is a big moment for our flagship newsletter. The next person who writes Incoming will have a chance to innovate, experiment, and redefine what it means to have the privilege of connecting with our readers in their inbox every day — an increasingly crucial relationship given our focus on building a deeper bond with our audience.

This strategist will work with stakeholders across the company to build and implement strategies across all of our newsletters. Preferably you’d have some experience with growing an audience — that could mean in the newsletter space, on social media, as a reporter or editor, or other ways. And if you don’t, you should be ready and willing to throw yourself wholeheartedly into learning audience development.

The Newsletter strategist will report to BuzzFeed News’s Director of News Curation, the leader of the newsroom’s hub for distribution on- and off-platform. The team does everything from running social media accounts to working with editors on headlines and promotion plans for our biggest stories. The strategist will also work closely with BuzzFeed’s newsletter team, which is part of BuzzFeed.com’s Audience Development team and works on newsletters spanning BuzzFeed News, BuzzFeed.com, Tasty, and all of BuzzFeed’s brands.

You Have

The newsletter strategist, most importantly, should have a big, bright, and concise writing style that can move from explanatory to entertaining to inspirational to impactful in a single email. They’ll have an eye for what our readers need to know about the news at the start of their day. And they should be able to seamlessly pull together the right mix of serious and lighthearted news — whether it’s breaking politics news, a major investigation we just dropped, and whatever else is blowing up on the Internet that particular day.

All job applications must be received through the official BuzzFeed Jobs board (https://www.buzzfeed.com/about/jobs), including referrals. It is BuzzFeed's practice to not schedule job interviews until after an application is submitted through our jobs board.
