The Role

BuzzFeed.com is looking for a data-minded Senior Audience Development Strategist with excellent editorial judgment. This person will be responsible for developing and executing on short and long term content and growth strategies as part of BuzzFeed’s Audience Development team. This role will be responsible for surfacing insights and leveraging opportunities for traffic experiments as well as public-facing “big red brand” initiatives.  

You Will

  • Be an expert on the trends, culture, and social media platforms and use this knowledge to find creative and strategic ways to drive audience engagement and traffic for BuzzFeed.com
  • Monitors social media/media landscape daily for trending and important stories and ideas to flag for BuzzFeed teams
  • Translate content trends (on site and on social) into actionable, data-supported recommendations for BuzzFeed content teams 
  • Routinely present data-based analyses and reports on internal and competitive content strategy 
  • Compile and distribute internal reporting around editorial initiatives including but not limited to tentpoles, quizzes, evergreen and timely content
  • Provide insights to support research/business teams as needed 
  • Set the strategy for on site and app curation, ensuring curated units, feeds, filters and push notifications are representative of BuzzFeed editorial voice 
  • Routinely leads editorial meetings (brainstorms, post-mortems, planning, etc.) 
  • Actively use insights to pitch high performing content to platform partners like Apple News
  • Execute growth-focused cross-team initiatives to find new ways to increase metrics and grow audiences (particularly working in tandem with the social team) 
  • Leverage deep understanding of data analytics tools (Looker, BuzzSumo, internal tooling) to report on BuzzFeed audience composition and present recommendations on how to improve reach

You Have

  • At least 4-6 years in an audience development or social publishing role in a digital space
  • Expert proficiency in data analytics tools
  • Masterful understanding of editorial voice, best practices, and content types and an ability to leverage that understanding to react to current events and pop culture moments
  • A curiosity and proactiveness to dig in and learn from past moments and initiatives to better prepare teams for future opportunities
  • Ability to independently convey direction to teams within and outside of content strategy and autonomously lead stakeholder and team meetings
  • Ability to lead efforts to define, update and implement the team best practices 
  • Ability to give guidance on content and partnerships, as well as strategic business growth
  • Previous experience with homepage curation, messaging, SEO, and/or partnerships are a huge plus
