About BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed is the world's leading tech-powered, diversified media company that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally through its cross-platform news and entertainment network. We produce articles, lists, quizzes, videos, and original series; lifestyle content through brands including Tasty, the world's largest social food network; original reporting and investigative journalism through BuzzFeed News and HuffPost; original pop culture and entertainment programming through Complex Networks; an industry-leading affiliate business, strategic partnerships, licensing and product development through BuzzFeed Commerce; and original productions across broadcast, cable, SVOD, film and digital platforms for BuzzFeed Studios.

The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for a senior-level editor who will contribute to BuzzFeed.com’s efforts to create and amplify content that will reach and increase our Black audience. This person will write, commission and edit work that falls in this category, both from freelancers and others on the editorial team. This editor will also serve as the editorial liaison with the business team on sponsorship opportunities related to reaching the Black audience on BuzzFeed’s platform. This is a full time role and can be remote in most states, or in the NYC or LA areas where there is opportunity for working in-office starting in 2022.

You Will

  • Produce commission and edit content designed to inform, engage and amplify the voices of our Black audience on BuzzFeed.com - specifically focused on non-Celebrity content
  • Recruit and edit freelance contributors for both sponsored and editorial initiatives
  • Attend meetings with sales and business leads as needed to offer an editorial POV on opportunities & workflow
  • Contribute to the Cocoa Butter Newsletter strategy and editorial curation

Note: If you do meet all of the requirements but are enthusiastic about the position, you should still apply; we are interested in candidates with a combination of skills in the editorial and digital media areas.

You Have

  • Experience writing digital content for a Black audience, and ability to do so in the style/voice of BuzzFeed.com
  • Previous editing experience, ideally across a range of content types like culture, entertainment, trending news, and/or lifestyle
  • An interest in working with business stakeholders and on sponsorship-related projects (previous experience across between business and editorial a plus but not required)

All job applications must be received through the official BuzzFeed Jobs board (https://www.buzzfeed.com/about/jobs), including referrals. It is BuzzFeed's practice to not schedule job interviews until after an application is submitted through our jobs board.
