BuzzFeed & HuffPost

BuzzFeed is the world's leading independent digital media and tech company, with a cross-platform news and entertainment network that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally and spreads Joy and Truth across the internet.

Our portfolio of brands are household names that people rely on to inform and entertain, including: BuzzFeed, BuzzFeed News, Tasty, Nifty, Bring Me, Cocoa Butter, Pero Like, Worth It, and Unsolved, to name a few. These properties and their Creators reach over 134M people a month through articles, lists, videos, animations, quizzes, podcasts, original series, newsletters and more.

On Nov. 19, 2020, BuzzFeed announced that it was acquiring HuffPost. HuffPost is a premium destination for award-winning journalism, and was the first fully digital U.S. publication to win the Pulitzer prize — a testament to editorial excellence. With this acquisition, BuzzFeed's scale, engagement and cultural impact will be unrivaled. BuzzFeed News and HuffPost will operate as separate, distinct news organizations.

The Role

HuffPost seeks a reporter focused on racial justice and equality to join our National desk.

We are looking for someone to own this beat, break news, write both dailies and feature stories, and develop investigations. Areas of focus could include voting rights and democracy, movement politics, immigration, criminal justice, and government or corporate accountability.

This job is for a rigorous reporter who strives to attain real world impact, uncover fresh stories and expose wrongdoing. You should be intensely curious about the decisions that lead to disparate outcomes for people of color and eager to report candidly on efforts to drive change.

You Will

Join HuffPost’s award-winning National desk, collaborating closely with other reporters and editors on a mix of short-term and long-term stories. If urgent news breaks on your beat, we expect you to cover it, helping to define HuffPost as a destination for social justice reporting. You should be able to generate creative ideas for day 2 stories that surf the newscycle but have an original angle.

You will also work on several in-depth projects a year that break new ground and have demonstrable impact. We prize innovative storytelling, stellar writing, and intrepid reporting.

Our reporting centers people, so in addition to cultivating expert sources and mining public records, you should be eager to get into the field and find uncovered voices. On occasion, you’ll partner with other reporters covering issues like inequality, climate change, healthcare and especially politics, and you’ll act as a resource on your beat for the rest of the newsroom.

You Have

At least 3 years of experience in journalism, either in breaking news, beat reporting or investigations. You should come to this job with a deep knowledge of America’s racial history, established relationships with sources, advocates and leaders, and a passion to grow those connections. A track record of centering new voices in stories is a plus, as are examples of your reporting having a direct impact.

This position is in the WGA-E bargaining unit.

All job applications must be received through the official BuzzFeed Jobs board (https://www.buzzfeed.com/about/jobs), including referrals. It is BuzzFeed's practice to not schedule job interviews until after an application is submitted through our jobs board.
