The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for an experienced and creative full-time photographer. This position involves collaborating with writers and designers to bring stories to life on our site as well as producing original work for emerging social media platforms. We're passionate about creating creative work and are looking for the perfect team member to join us in pushing our photography content to the next level.

You will help develop dynamic studio photography for our team in New York or Los Angeles. The ability to work within small teams is a must, as well as an understanding of the balance needed between artistry, team collaboration and brand guidelines. You will seek to bring innovation to the department while handling high-volume photographic needs for both editorial and branded work at a high-quality standard.

You will be based in our New York or LA office.

You Will

• Produce high-quality digital photography for a variety of original photoshoots ranging from food and lifestyle to portraits and products

• Help establish and improve the visual style of BuzzFeed photography

• Excel handling on-set troubleshooting of photography challenges

• Ability and interest in performing many different photography styles including lifestyle and food

• Expert level knowledge in Nikon systems as well as studio lighting and is on the pulse of photographic and equipment trends

• Partner with Art Directors to help develop style guides and best practices for original photography

• Report to the Associate Art Director in charge of photography on the art team

You Have

• 3+ years experience

• Professional photography portfolio that shows an expert-level knowledge of digital photography, including lighting, composition, capture and processing

• Deep understanding of all stages of the photography process, and ability to provide direction

• Open to performing many levels of work from quick editorial shoots in natural light to higher complexity shoots with studio lights

• Experience directing talent of all types

• Experience managing high volumes of workflow, planning, and task delegation

• Expert-level proficiency with DSLR functionality as well as all standard studio lighting techniques and traditional grip practice

• Expert level knowledge of industry-standard processing and imaging software tools, including the ability to create gifs, color correction and retouching photos

• Have a deep understanding of social media

• Knowledge of pre-production process plus

• Knowledge of arranging still life objects, products, props and backgrounds a plus
