The Role:

The UX Writer will use clear and expressive messaging to create innovative, engaging, and effortless experiences that support the individual needs of every Newsela student and teacher. Reporting to the VP of Product Design, you will partner closely with team members across Product Management, Product Design, Visual Design, Research, Engineering, Data, Content, and Marketing to ensure that the UX Writing Style Guide and copy solutions dovetail with other Newsela writing and brand guidelines. You will write copy for product usability and engagement, and will establish guidelines that leverage industry best practices of writing for digital products, including for instructional copy, messaging, CTAs, and other UI components. You will actively contribute to our customer-centric product design vision and culture, and will participate in all aspects of the design/development process while encouraging a learning mindset on your team.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Exceptional education products have never been more important or crucially needed. The narratives you create will directly impact the learning and teaching experience of tens of millions of users across the U.S. Your work will enable teachers and students nationwide to discover and use the most relevant, engaging content in a timely, efficient manner, which will ultimately help drive higher engagement with Newsela’s learning content and better learning outcomes. You will have the opportunity to help shape the future of K-12 education by designing and delivering delightful, engaging, intuitive product experiences.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have an exceptional writing portfolio that reflects shipped and currently-in-market products. You have 4+ years of relevant, consumer-facing writing experience including the following: crafting copy and narratives across a variety of contexts (including UI components, editorial content, and help text) that is simple, engaging, and helps the customers clearly understand the product offering and accomplish their goals; effectively communicating your ideas and underlying thinking through comprehensive documentation (UX/copy style guide, contribution to flows, wireframes, and prototypes created by design team members); contributing to the rapid prototyping at various levels of fidelity; planning, conducting, and analyzing customer research and user testing; using research results and performance data to drive your UX decisions; working collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional team.

You empathize deeply with the customer and fiercely advocate from their perspective. You identify and clearly articulate customer and business problems, then always propose a range of thoughtful and creative solutions. You truly love wordsmithing and approach copywriting holistically, creating a cohesive and consistent language system across the product design ecosystem. You adjust your writing tone and voice to various user audiences while aligning with the overall product brand. You have a strong understanding of current UX writing best practices and product design best practices for web-based platforms. You know when to apply word-perfect attention to detail and when broad strokes are needed to speed progress. You are thoughtful, curious, and set high standards for yourself. You are autonomous and take responsibility for every last detail, from conception to launch.
