About our team and what we'll build together
theSkimm Studios team is a small collaborative group that understands how to write, produce, and edit high-quality journalism while putting it in theSkimm's distinct voice. The team thrives in fast-paced environments, knowing that every day is different and brings new and exciting opportunities to help Skimm'rs live smarter lives. This role will work closely with the Editorial, Studios and Social teams to translate content into video. Studios content covers the scope of sit-down interviews, deep dive explainers, and short documentary profiles.
How you'll contribute to our mission

• Working closely with the Studios and Social team to edit all videos from rough cuts through final delivery
• Daily editing of content in the following formats: explainers, news, short docu style, Tik Tok- often within quick turnaround timelines
• Media management of all digital video files
• Working with a handful of freelance editors and serving as point person for necessary assets, best practices and media management
• Developing ideas for the larger Studio team; figuring out how to produce and edit content in new, fun and engaging ways through the scope of a digital lens
• Editing with platform and digital landscape in mind
• Creating motion graphics and design elements for videos

You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

• Fully proficient editing in a digital post-production environment in the Adobe Suite of products
• 2-4 years experience editing digital style content
• Experience in basic edit prep as well as managing media on a network/server
• An understanding of digital trends, cinematography and editing principles; with an ability to tell a cohesive story
• Familiar with the digital landscape and worked full-time at another publisher
• A track record of working effectively under short deadlines and in high-pressure environments
• Being a self-starter AND a team player who goes above and beyond to get the job done
• An acute attention to detail and dedication to accuracy
• Proficient in basic color correction, audio mixing and mixdowns
• Experience with After Effects and/or other motion-graphics program
• A background in graphic design
• Experience with shooting and general video production
• Passion for theSkimm and its mission, and a strong understanding of our brand

What about the office?
This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. At this time, our office remains closed but it is our goal to open as soon as it can be done safely. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in NYC and will provide updates to our employees as soon as we have them available.
We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations and will also require additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
