OVERVIEW

VICE Media is seeking a weekend editor in our Los Angeles, CA office or our Brooklyn, NY office. Main duties include writing, commissioning, and editing content to populate VICE.com every weekend. The job is full-time, though the successful applicant will be expected to work on Saturday and Sunday, taking Mondays and Tuesdays as their days off. The weekend editor position is something of a generalist role, in that the ideal candidate has an interest in all the topics VICE.com covers and is able to commission and write stories on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to: politics, domestic news, pop culture, internet subcultures, drugs, film, television, and sexuality.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commissioning both short and feature-length articles from freelancers
  • Writing quick, timely articles on the weekends
  • Proofreading and copy-editing content on the site
  • Working closely with the weekend social editor to ensure all stories are optimized
  • Working with the wider editorial team so that the weekends reflect the overall tone and story selection of the site

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 1-2 years editorial experience at a major publication
  • Ability to identify newsworthy stories and quickly write about them in a fresh, punchy tone
  • Experience editing both long and short-form articles
  • Impeccable grammatical skills and attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated, but also able to work well with other team members and freelancers
