ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE
theSkimm is looking to hire an experienced Writer for its editorial team. This is not an entry-level role and candidates must be comfortable with a non-traditional schedule. theSkimm's editorial team is a collaborative group of journalists from traditional media backgrounds, and we understand how to write high quality journalism in theSkimm's distinct voice. In this role, you'll work closely with the Managing Editors and other editorial staff members to write the Daily Skimm newsletter and special projects or long-form content.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Write the Daily Skimm newsletter, this includes researching, writing, editing, fact checking, and publishing
• Build the Daily Skimm article on theSkimm.com and other platforms
• Assist with other editorial products such as web and theSkimm app
• Work on special projects and/or long-form content

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• A minimum of 4-6 years of traditional newsroom experience
• Experience working in a breaking news environment
• Excellent writing and editorial judgment
• Experience with research and fact-checking
• Track record of working effectively under pressure to hit deadlines
• Passion for theSkimm and its mission, and the ability to write in theSkimm's voice
• The ability to be a self-starter and a team player
• Bachelor's degree

This is a full-time role with flexibility for remote work. While our employees are continuing to work remotely throughout the remainder of 2021, we are excited to return to HQ in New York, NY next year. Beginning in January 2022, the office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and NY metro area employees will come together in person a minimum of 3 days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employee and they may go in as often as they'd like.
We will require vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations for any additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
