About our team and what we'll build together
We're is looking to hire an experienced Writer for our editorial team. Candidates must be comfortable with a non-traditional schedule, including working weekends. theSkimm's editorial team is a collaborative group of journalists from a variety of media backgrounds, and we understand how to create high quality journalism in theSkimm's distinct voice. In this role, you'll work closely with the Senior Editor and other editorial staff members to write newsletters and special projects or long-form content.
How you'll contribute to our mission

• Produce a Skimm newsletter, which includes pitching, researching, writing, editing, fact checking, and publishing
• Build the newsletter article on theSkimm.com and other platforms
• Assist with other editorial products such as web and theSkimm app
• Work on special projects and/or long-form content

You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

• 3+ years of newsroom experience
• Experience working in a breaking news environment
• Track record of working effectively under pressure to hit deadlines, with clean copy
• Excellent writing and editorial judgment
• Experience with research, reporting, and fact-checking
• Experience publishing in a CMS
• Passion for theSkimm and its mission, and the ability to write in theSkimm's voice
• The ability to be a self-starter and a team player
• Experience in content development and strategy
• Experience with branded content
• Experience using data and audience insights to inform pitches

What about the office?
This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. At this time, our office remains closed but it is our goal to open as soon as it can be done safely. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in NYC and will provide updates to our employees as soon as we have them available.
We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations and will also require additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
