We're hiring a Writer to join our upcoming Parenting vertical.
About our team and what we'll build together
This person will be responsible for brainstorming, researching, reporting, writing, and fact-checking all content for theSkimm's Parenting section. This position provides the opportunity to join a growing team at the company and will report into the Editor of the Parenting vertical.
How you'll contribute to our mission

  • Work with the editor and alongside the video, audio, and social teams to develop a cohesive, cross-platform vision for parenting content
  • Write content for various platforms - this will include pitching, researching, original reporting, expert interviews, and fact-checking
  • Build content in our CMS


You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

  • 2-3+ years writing experience
  • Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
  • A general interest in all parenting topics, and an ability to stay abreast of and interpret emerging studies and news about kids and parenting
  • Experience with original reporting, including sourcing and interviewing experts to create authoritative, data-backed content that helps readers navigate complicated topics.
  • Experience crafting promotional packaging for content (think: email plugs, social posts, etc.)
  • Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments
  • Ability to write in theSkimm's voice
  • Passion for theSkimm and its mission
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience evaluating and/or reporting content performance
  • Experience implementing SEO best practices

What about the office?
This is a full-time role with flexibility for remote work.
Our office is available to use three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of three days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York and will adjust this plan accordingly.
We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations and will also require additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
