The Data & Analytics Research team at NBCUniversal is looking for a passionate Analytics Engineer who's looking to build the next generation of Visualization solutions while working with internal stakeholders, data engineers, data scientists, and other technologists across one or more of our main subject areas. The Analytics Engineer role is right for you if you're a subject matter expert in designing and developing great visual solutions and can maintain the fine balance of business acumen and deep technical knowledge. Job Description
  • Lead the process of visualizing data derived from multiple sources i.e., Manipulating data, flat files, and raw information into cohesive data sets for visualization and incorporating the results into actionable insights
  • Gather reporting requirements from business stakeholders and convert them into technical solutions that give the users access to the data in a format that highlights actionable insights
  • Transform large volumes of complex data into digestible bits to enable technical/non-technical end users to make data-driven decisions while optimizing the user experience and adhering to branding standard
  • Build visualizations that tell a story, making the best use of the canvas and leverage intuitive layouts
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the design and recommendation of visualization methodologies and approaches
  • Define and align common KPIs across multiple functional groups
  • Participate in development sprints, demos, and retrospectives, alongside releases and deployment
  • Work with key stakeholders and the data engineering team to ensure quality and integrity of products delivered
  • Coach and guide others within the D&A organization to build and implement best practices for Visualization solutions
  • Remain up to date with the latest visualization, standards, systems, and future-forward tools and languages

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in visualization solution development building of data and analytics products
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL or other data discovery/analysis platforms in a capacity supporting day-to-day operations
  • 2+ years of experience in a business-facing analytical role and proven track record of related success
  • 3+ years of experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Direct experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT development principles, Airflow Development, cloud development, and data warehousing concepts

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

We have multiple projects that are complex and require a good coordination of resources from multiple teams. While this is challenging, I have to give kudos to every member of our team that works very hard on these projects while working on day-to-day troubleshooting tasks.

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I started at NBCU as a QA Analyst, testing the NBC Sports App on multiple Platforms, and in 2019, I was promoted to Sr. QA. During my time on this team, I supported Monday Night Football, 2 Superbowls and 4 Olympic Games (and even won an Emmy for the Rio Olympics in 2016!) In Feb of 2022, I moved to Peacock OneApp and I was promoted to manager.

What are some social events your company does?

Our Employee Resource Groups have hosted such a variety of events, both virtually and in-person. I’ve had a chance to attend paint nights, pumpkin carving, one-on-one speed networking dates with other women in tech, movie premiere events and learning about different cultures/cuisines in celebration of AAPI month! There’s always something going on!
