Job Description
Are you an analytical individual looking to take the next step in your medical coding career? The Pathology Department at MSK is seeking a Clinical Data Specialist who will analyze medical records and extract data in accordance with established coding principles and guidelines. In this role, you will ensure that data is optimally coded for research purposes, financial reimbursement, planning, statistics and regulatory reporting. This team interacts directly with physicians to ensure that clinical documentation is coded timely, accurately and in compliance with CMS guidelines and national correct coding initiatives.
You Are:
- A Certified Professional Coder with extensive knowledge in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
- Proficient in Data entry with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to connect with diverse audiences and to handle complex coding scenarios.
- Adept at prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
- Skilled at creating partnerships and working collaboratively to meet shared objectives and goals.
- Results oriented and agile to adapt to new opportunities and tough challenges with high energy, and passion.
You Will:
- Identify and assign appropriate principal and applicable subsequent diagnoses, and procedure codes based on pathology reports, using ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes.
- Follow all applicable policies and procedures related to billing. Participate in and promote the prevention, detection and resolution of instances of non-compliance
- Resolve coding rejections based on resource review when warranted
- Verify accurate hospitalization to be coded and review and interpret all information on demographics, medical history, and course of treatment
You Have:
- 1-4 years of coding experience using CPT Codes, HCPCS, and ICD-10 Codes
- Good computer, verbal and written communication skills required
- Certifications from AHIMA or AAPC
