The Director of Consumer Insights will be responsible for building the Insights function within Freshly, deepening our understanding of consumers, and driving a culture of customer obsession throughout the organization.

 

S/he will create a research agenda that identifies and addresses key learning gaps, across current and potential future products, and lead the development, execution, and delivery of that plan. This may include establishing research partnerships, owning customer personas, identifying core insights for our target consumer, and monitoring ongoing brand health. Importantly, it will also involve collaborating with the in-house Data team to develop a holistic view of customers, across both quantitative and qualitative dimensions. S/he will also partner with the Acquisition, Retention, Culinary, Product and Innovation teams to identify specific research needs and translate relevant insights into action.

 

Most importantly, s/he will serve as the voice and champion of the customer. Understanding the needs of our existing and potential customers is core to what we do, and s/he will be the key voice within the organization to keep teams grounded and truly customer-focused.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively work with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to identify knowledge gaps and develop consumer learning plan that addresses key business issues.
  • Manage the complete process of planning and executing custom research studies (qualitative and quantitative) – including methodology, research design, supplier selection, questionnaire development/review, analysis and share-out. Ensure projects meet timelines and on-budget completion.
  • Assemble and maintain a repository of consumer insights along with industry, category and competitive learnings and communicate key insights to stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Act as a consumer advocate within the organization – owning and amplifying the pulse of Freshly’s customers throughout the organization.
  • Own consumer segmentation and ongoing view of consumer personas.
  • Manage regular brand health tracking.
  • Partner with and provide insights and recommendations to Brand, Creative, Acquisition and Retention teams to evolve our messaging and voice as we grow.
  • Collaborate with Innovation, Culinary and Product teams to shape Freshly’s innovation pipeline and go-to-market strategies, both in the short and longer-term.
  • Identify and manage vendors to help us scale our research efforts (when and how we should bring on outside expertise to improve and scale).
  • Longer-term, build out an Insights team that will help support the growing needs of the company.

About You:

  • 8+ years of market research experience, required.
  • 3+ years leading consumer insights within an organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of market research techniques – both qualitative and quantitative – including experience with survey design, interview methodology, segmentation strategy and persona development.
  • Experience with informing multiple different types of projects, including: creative/messaging, customer satisfaction, innovation, product engagement, web/purchasing flows, etc.
  • Ability to be strategic and see the big picture, with experience setting a research agenda.
  • Scrappy and comfortable with stepping into execution mode as the first consumer insights hire.
  • Data-driven: you should have enough data chops to feel comfortable extracting, manipulating, and analyzing the results of surveys + other quantitative data sources.
  • Team player, extraordinarily collaborative and inclusive.
  • Exceptional communication / presentation skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience building teams and scoping roles as we scale.
  • Relentless focus on the consumer.
