Data Engineer
We’ve quickly grown to be a market leader in fashion and are looking for a data engineer who can operate a robust catalog of databases, data warehouses, and API endpoints to help us scale the data we collect and the types of questions we can answer.
This is a chance to join a small, smart, and nimble team of engineers and a clean, robust tech stack. You’ll get to use some skills you already know, learn new ones, and help evolve Grailed from an intimate community of fashion enthusiasts into a data-driven machine built to optimize the world’s wardrobe.
As a Data Engineer, you will:
- Be responsible for the management, reliability, and scaling of our various data sources and tools such as PostgreSQL, Redshift, Segment, and Alooma
- Work alongside non-engineering teams to identify business requirements, define data transformation systems, and help integrate Grailed data into third party systems, powering our marketing communications, fraud detection, and partner integration
- Combine basic data and light machine learning to drive the development of new types of realtime tools and analysis using machine learning tools like image classification, user clustering, and natural language processing
- Enhance our data portfolio with frameworks and technology to enable faster, near-real-time processing, to improve fraud detection, listing indexing, and search performance
- Help our organization scale safely and rigorously by working alongside engineers to build alerts and reporting to monitor data quality and performance throughout our ecosystem
We are growing fast and are excited about capturing the business’ potential. That said, we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and value employees who will take the same point of view.
The following might describe you:
- 3+ years of relevant engineering and database work
- A strong knowledge of basic database concepts, such as SQL, table indexing, and datatype optimization
- Strong scripting ability in Bash, Ruby, and/or Python
- A familiarity with parsing and transforming data coming from a variety of end points - CSV flat files, JSON, APIs, relation databases, and S3
- Experience working in the AWS ecosystem, especially Redshift
- A strong understanding of the technical requirements of solving basic ecommerce, marketing, and data science problems
- An ability to deduce how complicated engineering systems function, and how those functions are reflected through numbers
- An eagerness to dive into and explore one of the world’s largest and most fascinating fashion datasets, spanning thousands of designers and millions of closets
- Decisiveness and the desire to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
