Job Purpose


As the Principal Data Scientist, you’ll play a critical role in building a data-driven culture and driving strategic initiatives. In this highly visible leadership role, you will be responsible for the development and ongoing operation of Gympass’ products, technologies, tools, and technical solutions leveraging data science and machine learning.


What You’ll Do….


Ensure data best practices and play a critical role in building a data-driven culture throughout the entire organization

Build machine learning infrastructure and solutions (e.g. recommendation engines, statistical models, NLP engines, randomized control studies) that drive activity on our platform, scale our business, and enhance the user experience

Use your creativity and intuition to help find and solve the fun, challenging problems we work on every day.

Influence the development of additional capabilities to deliver business outcomes through the use of automated algorithms on the Gympass platform

Participate heavily in Gympass executive team: help set business strategy, represent product data science, initiate and debate key strategic topics and opportunities from your team’s work, and drive bold high-impact decisions.

Grow and expand your team with an eye toward diverse and forward-pushing skills that span machine learning methods, data engineering and tooling, experimentation, and analytics.

Instill an inclusive team culture that is both passionate and collaborative.

Work with the leadership team in establishing a long-term vision for the company while building out a roadmap of data science development and applications

Communicate with stakeholders, business owners and engineers on business impact, technology requirements, and results


You Should Have….


At least 4 years hands-on data science experience applying ML methods to structured and unstructured data sets

Deep experience with SQL and Python or R

Experience identifying, prioritizing, and getting buy-in for data opportunities within a rapidly growing organization

Willingness to be a protagonist in the organization, entrepreneurial spirit, desire to build a new team and ability to navigate easily between strategy and execution

Deep technical background in applied data science, spanning some or all of: statistics, experimentation, machine learning, causal inference methods, optimization techniques, data engineering and architecture (applied to large data), and behavioral analytics. 

You likely have a M.S. or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Physics, Operations Research, etc. Technical publications and ties to academic communities are a plus.

You have experience building and leading expert data science teams comprising both leaders and individual contributors, and are adept at figuring out ways to help them flourish.

You are skilled at operating in a complex, cross-functional organization or company where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many disciplines.
