About Spruce

Spruce is the platform enabling modern real estate transactions. We work with forward-thinking mortgage lenders, real estate companies, and investors. We believe that the future of real estate will be driven by automation, efficiency, and digital experiences. Our mission is to provide the products and services necessary to make that happen.

About the job

Spruce is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join its growing Data Science team. The ideal candidate will have an interest in real estate and will thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.

As a part of the Data Science team, you will help build a cutting edge platform that will define the future of real estate transactions. You’ll design, test, and improve automation and algorithms that power the industry’s most innovative process for closing real estate transactions.

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations as part of a team building the industry’s first automated title search platform.
  • Build predictive models to quantify risk surrounding the real estate transaction.
  • Use tools like natural language processing and optical character recognition to build information extraction algorithms.
  • Analyze transaction flow patterns to identify transaction risk early in the process.
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze data using Python and SQL
  • Develop automated QA scripts which will enable faster automated search development and expansion.
  • Define, explore, and build your own training datasets using both internal and 3rd party sources.

What we're looking for

  • BA or equivalent in statistics, math, economics, comp sci, or another quantitative field
  • 1-2 years working experience as a data scientist
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language, ideally Python
  • Knowledge of a range of statistical modeling techniques.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work cross functionally with non-technical colleagues
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Startup experience
  • Familiarity with web scraping and APIs
  • A background in insurance and / or real estate
  • Experience deploying statistical models into live pipelines

We are proud of the team we’re building. We're committed to equal opportunity employment -- and beyond. We believe diverse experiences and perspectives build a stronger team and a better product. We welcome fresh perspectives and challenge our own assumptions to make Spruce better. The more inclusive we are as a company, the better we can serve our customers.
