Data Visualization Specialist
The Data Visualization Specialist will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing cutting-edge data visualizations used by functional groups across Discovery’s global footprint. You will work with a team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts to deliver compelling user-friendly Business Intelligence tools that make data exploration simple and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Implement a consistent and effective design strategy across all reports and dashboards
- Ensure that best practices and design principles are being followed across the team
- Work with stakeholders to understand to their data visualization and dashboard needs
- Work with data engineers to build dashboards and reports in Tableau and other BI tools
- Recommend industry leading tools and services and understand the benefits and drawbacks of various widely used BI tools
- Make large and or complex data more accessible, understandable, and usable
- Look at existing dashboards critically and provide constructive feedback
- Understand the tradeoffs between designing multipurpose dashboards vs. highly specialized reports
- Collaborate with other BI leads throughout the organization to coordinate tools and methods
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in UX/UI Design, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management or similar discipline
- 2+ years’ work experience with BI visualization tools and their implementation, ideally Tableau or PowerBI and/or in dashboards design for internal or external users
- Strong understanding of design principles and aesthetics of business dashboards, data visualization and reports (i.e. look and feel)
- Strong understanding of UX principles and ability to work with stakeholders to understand their needs in the design process
- Must be able to define, shape, and drive projects to completion while effectively collaborating with others
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate an ability to solve complex problems and present recommendations to senior management effectively
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, work ethic and the ability to work well individually as well as leading cross functional project teams
- Ability to work with large amounts of information and see the ‘bigger picture’
- Excellent analytical skills
- Basic data modelling and database design understanding including experience in SQL is a plus
- Understanding of key principles of data science, statistical analysis, and experience with big data technologies and platforms is a plus
- Experience in Media is a plus
- Must have the legal righ tto work in the United States
