What this role is about: 

At RapidSOS, we rely on insightful data to power our systems and solutions. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Director of Data Science to join our team who will develop the long-term vision for the data science organization regarding latent needs, active needs, analysis, and actions. You will work collaboratively with other data scientists, product managers, and our engineering teams to build a platform that provides life-saving data to dispatchers, currently covering over 92% of the US population.

What you’ll do: 

• Develop models and collaborate with others to get consensus and adoption from critical stakeholders 

• Lead strategic projects and data-driven decision making by partnering with key cross-functional teams and leadership

• Build tools/systems that are standardized across the data science organization

• Identify ways to make the Data Science organization more effective at shipping models, insights, and emergency intelligence

• Introduce new concepts, models, and research proposals to improve RapidSOS’s capabilities

• Collaborate with the data science team, machine learning engineers, and product stakeholders to ensure the end-to-end success of RapidSOS solutions

• Provide mentorship and guidance to data scientists by giving constructive feedback and implementing best practices

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate: 

• 7+ years of experience leading data science, engineering, and analyst teams

• BS or higher in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Sciences or similarly quantitative/technical field or equivalent experience 

• Proficiency in Python, R, SQL

• Hands-on experience with traditional data warehouse technologies and BI or visualization tools; familiarity with BigQuery and AWS is preferred

• Master level of machine learning techniques, algorithms and data visualization, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Random Forests, etc.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver data driven insights
