We are seeking an Economist to join and play a critical role in our growing and quickly evolving Data function. In this position, you will lead our efforts to quantify key business drivers, developing data models to successfully improve our market penetration and impact. You’ll develop and deploy data models that assess our current win rates and margins and create innovative solutions to improve our opportunities in the contract and spot freight markets. This role will provide a tremendous opportunity to have a widespread impact on our organization and provide increased analytical and technical thought-leadership to Transfix.

What You’ll Do In this Role:

  • Develop and deploy models that quantify key business drivers related to our brokerage business
  • Quantify our win rate and margins related to our contract freight opportunities
  • Thoroughly assess the business risk as it relates to our contract and spot freight opportunities 
  • Understand the freight business inside and out and utilize mathematical equations to quantifiably improve our market positioning
  • Provide outstanding analytical thought leadership and provide innovative solutions to complex business problems
  • Improve our multisided platform by increasing the effectiveness of our demand matching models that allow us to match shippers and carriers
  • Utilize your expert understanding of auction theory and understand how to leverage game theory to solve our conundrums

How You Know this Role is For You:

  • You have 5+ years experience as an Economist, Data Scientist, and/or have a PhD in a quantitative field
  • You have a Masters degree or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, or Economics
  • You love analyzing data and everything about it - from identifying a business problem to prepping the data to building models to showcasing and explaining your findings
  • You have extensive programming experience related to data structures and coding constructs
  • You love translating business problems into equations and have a history of scoping, planning and establishing success metrics for analytical projects
  • You have practical work experience with Risk or Econometric Modeling, application of Auction Theory or Market Demand estimation
  • You have deep knowledge of and experience in writing SQL, R, Python, script writing and/or other similar tools
  • You have utilized a Python Library such as Pandas, Numpy, or Scipy
  • You are a data visualization expert that loves showing data via histograms, box plots and other unique and insightful views on the data
  • You are curious, honest, intelligent and a deep critical thinker

Location

Transfix's NYC HQ is steps from the Oculus and Fulton Center, with access to subway train lines. We are close to tons of restaurants, shops. We are on the top floor so have wonderful light and breathtaking views, including a spectacular view of One World Trade from our outdoor rooftop deck!
