You will work with subject matter experts (inside and outside of IT) and engineers to understand and document requirements, objectives, and constraints with respect to data integration and reuse opportunities. Working closely with system owners you will ensure that their systems are well designed to meet data coordination and data integration goals across applications and as it relates to our data warehouse.

This is a highly technical position that requires the incumbent thoroughly understand rapid and iterative application development processes, a wide range of technologies related to database systems and software, the intricacies of complex systems, performance and capacity planning, and business objectives. You will design and document the data solution patterns and define steps to move from the current to desired state. As the Enterprise Data Architect, you will also play a key role in proof of concepts, domain-driven design, data governance, ensuring that established principles, standards, and patterns are applied appropriately and as intended. You’ll own and maintain enterprise data management tools and utilities, and will anticipate future growth and evolving data needs across our business. You’ll also provide technical leadership regarding integration impact across business, information, application, technical and security architectures.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to develop guiding principles, reference architectures, technology landscapes, standards, best practices and roadmaps that support business priorities. You’ll work closely with leaders across our Technology and Product organizations, and serve as a liaison between the Source Systems Owners and Enterprise Data Warehouse/BI. Ultimately, your work will drive key data decisions that help expand Newsela’s reach, and bring meaningful enhancements to the learning and teaching experience of over millions of K-12 students and teachers across the U.S. And because we're a technology company focused on improving the way students learn, you’ll be part of a Technology team culture that values learning, teaching, and questioning.

Why We’ll Love You:

With 8+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, application integration architecture, data architecture, software development, or engineering, you have advanced working knowledge of application development processes and domain-driven design. You possess advanced skill in requirements gathering, requirements analysis, business process analysis, object-oriented analysis and data modeling, as well as advanced knowledge of solution patterns within the data domain, including working with structured and unstructured data and transactional and analytical solutions, preferably on AWS. You have demonstrated the ability to develop useful, secure, reliable, and high-performing solutions for complex challenges, and can seamlessly translate complex technical terminology, concepts and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and staff. You’re also well versed in Agile development practices, and have at least an intermediate knowledge of UML and object-oriented design. While not required, a background in enterprise reporting and data science/machine learning is preferred.
