Job Description

Butterfly Network is seeking an experienced leader who is excited about building robust, scalable data infrastructure to support the company’s rapid growth. Someone who is passionate about influencing both the technical as well as the cultural aspects of data infrastructure. This leader will work across the entire company to understand business data needs, data sources and their interdependencies, as well as to define and classify data to drive alignment and consistency in its use. The Head of Data Governance and Operations will design and own the company’s data architecture, develop efficient and reliable data ingestion and storage solutions and ensure the company’s data complies with privacy and security regulations. 

The Head of Data Governance and Operations will build a team that will execute and serve as the backbone for Butterfly Network’s data environment, providing solutions as Butterfly expands globally and complies with the data requirements of a public company. The Head of Data Governance and Operations will work in close collaboration with stakeholders, moving at their pace, while at the same time maintaining the reliability, scalability and performance of our data infrastructure. Working closely with the functional teams, driving requirements gathering and prioritization, overseeing design and implementation, as well as providing leadership to a talented technical team.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and manage a multi-disciplinary team of data engineers, integration specialists, and data architecture specialists
  • Review Butterfly’s existing enterprise architecture, identify and implement enhancements to ensure its long-term scalability, reliability and security
  • Build policies, processes and systems to catalog key data sources, maintain and enhance data quality
  • Develop a data access policy and ensure it is adopted by data owners
  • Work with business leadership and stakeholders to understand and document requirements
  • Apply trade offs in make vs buy decisions when developing solutions and leveraging outsourcing to optimize team resources
  • Be a key enabler in developing business process flows by proposing optimal use of new and existing systems
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with technical peers and business users

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of managerial experience leading data development teams
  • Experience analyzing business processes to recommend optimizations/improvements
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouse solutions, preferably BigQuery
  • Proven ability to implement complex product integrations involving cloud applications
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with strong analytical & critical thinking skills
  • Adept and proactive at problem-solving and stakeholder management

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Experience with Integration Platforms such as Celigo, Boomi and Informatica
  • NetSuite or other ERP experience is preferred with strong data analytics, reporting and database experience
