Head of Master Data Management
About the Team
The Analytics team is a critical function that supports data-driven decision-making throughout Harry's. We make sure that data flows throughout the company, and everyone has the information they need to make better decisions, faster. The analytics team thinks about data and insights across our global supply chain, through the marketing we show our customers, to when the customer gets a package at their door or at their nearest retailer. The team also coordinates closely with our IT, Finance, and Distribution teams to understand the trends from data in our enterprise systems.
As Harry’s, Inc diversifies across more categories, channels, geographies, and brands, it is becoming increasingly important that our data is well governed, well-defined, and able to scale seamlessly across systems. This will help us create consistent narratives across teams, and reduce operational risks in our main transactional flows.
To support this need, we are looking for a leader to build out a new Master Data Management (MDM) function within Analytics. This team’s responsibilities will span the following:
- Maintain a mapping of our key processes and master data flows across systems
- Own and maintain the governance playbook (i.e., systems, processes, frameworks, etc) required to maintain high-quality master data (partnering with other business units who own input data)
- Manage controls processes for key taxonomies and other metadata
- Drive accountability of maintaining high quality master data across the org
- Audit data to manage against data gaps and quality issues
- Educate and excite the broader Harry’s org and on the importance of MDM
About the Role
Harry’s is seeking a Master Data Management leader who can build out this function from the ground up. In this role specifically, you will be responsible for the quality of our master data in key systems, and the main governance processes that drive this effort. You will start out as a team of one, but may eventually help us build out the function to a broader team. That being said, you will be part of the larger, highly collaborative and talented Analytics team!
Because our business is complex and constantly evolving, we need someone with a passion for structure, a robust analytical toolkit, and deep expertise in ERP (we use SAP S4) and other enterprise systems. You’ll work in a highly collaborative and cross-functional manner with others in Analytics, IT, Finance, Supply Chain, Digital Product and Retail.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is a builder and entrepreneur -- someone who is excited about using data and analytics to push the whole company forward.
Here's what you'll accomplish:
- Identify what we want to consider “master data” here at Harry’s, and create a clear roadmap for us to clean up our systems over the next 6, 12, and 24 months
- Quickly master the data in our key enterprise and commercial systems
- Map out the current state processes that create our key tables and references
- Maintain great documentation of our data structures and data owners
- Hold data owners accountable for the quality of their data
- Develop and Publish a Master Data Quality Scorecard
- Provide visibility into the Quality of Master Data (Exist, Consistent, Validity, etc)
- Stand up master data governance processes that make us great at MDM
- Write the playbook and operating model for us to get better at our handoffs and be faster at catching discrepancies across systems
- Align Master Data Milestones to critical business planning and commercial calendars, ensuring the critical data elements are populated to enable uninterrupted business transactions
- Support MDM incidents, enhancements, and projects like OTC, PTP, etc.
- Create clear change management and control processes
- Apply technology to catch and manage data quality issues
- Actively engage with our IT team on SAP S4 ongoing enhancements to drive successful delivery of data governance objectives
- Drive an educational program across Harry’s on the importance and requirements of great MDM
- Ultimately, we believe there is real commercial value in doing this right, helping us avoid retailer chargebacks and drive to better product/customer insights!
Background and Experience:
- 10+ years of overall experience in the master data management field, including times when you’ve rolled up your sleeves to execute on the details
- Well versed in data governance best practices
- Previous role at a CPG or Direct-to-Consumer company is a bonus
- Proficient Technical Skill - You have knowledge of how to work in SAP Analytics, as well as cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., Redshift), and have experience with the core table and ETL tools in SAP (we use S4). You know how to apply technology to pair with MDM processes and scale more efficiently
- Strong Business Acumen – You have great appreciation for the details of how CPG functions work together to drive order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, forecasting, and transportation processes
- Process and structure mastery – You love structure and have a knack for creating and driving good processes. You can get large groups of people from different teams on the same page on what they need to do when… and most importantly, why!
- Problem Solver – You have experience boiling down medium and large scope data problems into measurable and achievable blocks of work. You have the foresight to identify and dismantle potential roadblocks ahead of time. Furthermore, you’re pragmatic: you can identify and work on the most important problems first and you want to find the highest-impact lowest cost solution, and employ the right resources
- Clear and concise communicator – You know how to communicate complex concepts effectively and concisely and are comfortable presenting and debating in large groups. We’re looking for a strong data advocate who can plug into cross-functional working teams seamlessly and drive cultural pushes for the organization to become more data driven
Values that might describe you:
- You like to solve problems - You push yourself to solve problems in novel, scalable ways so that you are never solving the same problem twice
- You are curious and a learner - You are always seeking to improve yourself and your team, and you love to learn new things while going deeper in the areas you know
- You thrive on direct, honest, and supportive communication and feedback
- You are infectiously optimistic - To you, there’s nothing more exciting than a new challenge. Hard things are hard, but you don’t let that get in the way
Who you will work with:
- You will report directly to the Head of Analytics, and get close mentorship from the Head of IT and Head of Distribution.
- Within the larger H’ org, you’ll work closely with our Analytics, Supply Chain, Finance, IT, Retail, and Digital Product teams
