Headway is building a new mental healthcare system, rewired for access and affordability.
We all know someone that has struggled with mental health - 1 in 4 people have a treatable mental health condition - but the overwhelming majority don’t get the care they need. The primary reason is cost - seventy percent of therapists don’t accept insurance, meaning paying for therapy is usually very, very expensive.
Headway is building the first national, virtual network of therapists who accept insurance, helping providers to expand their practices, and individuals to finally find a therapist they can afford. And we’re doing it all through software.
We launched in April of 2019 and are already powering thousands of therapy appointments every single day. To scale our mission, we’ve raised funding from the world’s preeminent VCs (backers of Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Uber, Oscar) as well as the nation’s most innovative healthcare entrepreneurs (founders of One Medical, Flatiron Health, and Clover Health).

About Our Data Team
Our Data team is a vital part of Headway’s strategy setting. We’re not going to be asking you to build dashboards no one will look at or one-off reports you have no context for -- instead you’ll be engaging closely with every department at Headway to answer their toughest questions and unearth key insights.
About This Role
We're looking for someone who can write complex SQL today and sees themselves growing into a Director of Data. This is a foundational role that will report to the new Head of Finance and Data and will be helping to choose and build a modern best-of-breed analytics stack (e.g., dbt, Metaflow/Looker) as well as using those tools to answer critical strategic questions.
You’ll be a great fit if...
- You have a demonstrated history (ideally 3+ years) of uncovering insights through data analysis. You love figuring out what metrics drive performance, designing the best way to accurately and repeatedly measure them, and communicating what your analysis suggests about how to improve.
- You have experience working with a modern data architecture (as examples: dbt, Metabase, Looker) and can write complex SQL queries with ease.
- You relish working closely with many different functional areas and deeply understanding their needs. You live by the maxim that analysis without context is just as dangerous as no analysis at all.
- You're analytical and metrics-oriented: You seek to measure because you seek to improve, whether it be through reports, dashboards, or complex ad hoc analyses.
- You thrive in operational complexity, and relish in the minutiae.
- You're a strategic thinker and communicator: You bridge the technical gap. You can be deep in the technical weeds in one moment writing a SQL query, and in the next moment zoom out to help evaluate our long-term operational strategy and understand how your results tie in.
- You're energized by ambiguity: You are excited by the idea that the roadmap may change, because you will help build the roadmap. You are motivated by the opportunity to build the things that will help us scale, and you will ruthlessly prioritize the things that matter most.

Headway is currently remote, and will be for the foreseeable future. However, once it is deemed safe to do so, we will be returning to our office in NYC.
