About the role:

LearnVest/Northwestern Mutual is looking for a talented Business Analyst to help shape and lead a transformational effort for our digital products across our wealth and investment platform. The role requires deep understanding of the technical and business landscape and can lead cross functional teams to create elegant experiences for our users. This individual will work closely with product managers, engineers and vendors to deliver new functionality in an agile environment. Strong technical fundamentals will need to be supplanted with soft skills in building relationships across numerous teams, effectively communicating requirements, and aligning teams around shared goals.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Defines users, creates and maintains user stories, and develops and prioritizes functional requirements for new or revised features or enhancements.
  • Represents the customer, interfaces with and engages the customer.
  • Responsible for the product and product features from start to finish. Key decision maker on priorities and design decisions, and works to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned. Inspects product progress and has complete authority to accept or reject work done. Elaboration of Epics, Themes and Features can be presented into user stories that are granular enough to be achieved in a single sprint.
  • Understands both the engineering and business side of the product released and is ultimately responsible for representing the end-users’ needs.
  • Participates in the daily Scrums, Sprint Planning Meetings and Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.
  • Collaborate in a deeply cross functional way with engineers and designers - roll up your sleeves and put your heads together to brainstorm requirements for features and solution through thorny bugs
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert for various products/functionality within the Investment and Wealth platform.
  • Role can be based out of NYC or Milwaukee, WI. 

Who we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years of financial services experience building financial technology with engineers and designers.
  • Someone who has driven lean product development with cross-functional teams: You have a strong sense of which questions to ask and factors to consider in writing effective user stories and coordinating feature releases.
  • Someone with listening skills: You seek out the opinions of others to inform your decisions, but are able to defend your own when challenged. You’re open to shifting your stance on something when you uncover new information.
  • Experience working with vendors on complex initiatives and leading multifaceted teams to complete projects to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Familiar with clearing, advisory programs and performance reporting solutions such as Pershing, Albridge and Envestnet.
  • Someone with technical chops:You don’t need to code, but you should be able to gauge what technologies work best for the job, what’s easy or difficult to implement. Understanding of utilizing and building micro services and comprehensive APIs for financial portals.
  • Someone who is organized and efficient with an attention to detail: You do not let important details slip through the cracks and derail a release. You’re able to produce significant output with minimal wasted effort.
  • Excellent communicator both oral and written.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Computer Science or Finance strongly preferred.
