Who are you?
You are an experienced Tableau developer fluent with its advanced features and are comfortable with SQL. You have experience re-designing dashboards for optimal communication and love sharing your knowledge with others.
You enjoy finding the simplest, most elegant solution for complex data problems. You see the potential for data and compelling visualizations to drive the organization to greater performance- but only if the data is reliable! You are able to meet each stakeholder "where they are" in a range of data literacy, understanding both the user's literal request and also inferring the core goal behind that request. You enjoy pushing a reporting project to its maximum value by iteratively asking how the current data can be better visualized to answer core business questions more quickly. You know that to stick with a tough job or problem, you also have to find a way to have fun with it. You appreciate the contributions of highly engaged and skilled team members.
What You'll Do
The Data Team centralizes, cleans and prepares the company's internal business data in our data warehouse (Snowflake) to facilitate business decision-making. The Data team uses Business Intelligence tools (Tableau, Looker) that facilitate more accurate and automated reporting and analysis. The team also provides support (documentation, training, coaching) for data analysts in key departments (Marketing, Operations, Customer Support, etc) to ensure that internal analysts are increasingly self-sufficient. Your role within the Data Team will be to support data analysts by acting as an internal consultant and coach, evaluating their dashboards, suggesting improvements and helping them implement your suggestions. Reporting to the Director of Business Data, you will:

  • Improving Amplify's suite of Business Data reporting via
    • Consulting with report developers and redesigning their prototypes to improve overall visual communication
    • Reviewing and suggesting improvements to existing design style guides
    • Develop a plan for standardizing the content on Tableau Online
    • Developing and testing moderately complex reports in Tableau leveraging complex models, LODs, filter on parameter selections, etc.
  • Grow the skill sets of data analysts in other departments (Marketing, Operations, Sales, etc) by
    • Creating a training plan for data analysts covering data literacy and our BI tools (Tableau and Looker)
    • Creating and providing training sessions
    • Orienting new analysts to the data and tools available to them
    • Acting as the first line of support for Tableau related questions and issues
    • Providing documentation, "how-to" guides and videos on our "Data Analyst Hub"
    • Providing one-on-one coaching for analysts to guide them towards greater data literacy and improved visual communication
  • Improve and streamline the Business Data department's scope of work by
    • Maintaining users and permissions in the Tableau Online platform
    • Conducting content audits for Tableau Online and Looker
    • Tracking and communicating deliverable progress between the Data Team and other departments
    • Creating design templates and standards when need
    • Participating in Data Governance by identifying data quality issues and working with other stakeholders to improve the data stored in the data warehouse


Example Projects You Might Work On

  • Creating finance reports from NetSuite data that compare actual and budgeted expenses.
  • Coaching Marketing analysts on the best visualizations to illustrate relative Campaign Performance and performance against targets
  • Implementing parameter selections on Sales Pipeline data to show pipeline segment details within the context of the overall pipeline.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years related work experience (with an emphasis on effective data visualizations and coaching others)
  • 3+ years as a Tableau Creator making reports, dashboards, and distilling data into meaningful insights
  • 2+ years designing reports that show complex information in appealing, easy-to-understand, and effective visualizations. (Must be able to demonstrate a portfolio).
  • Experience with basic SQL querying (or equivalent data manipulation experience to select and join data)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience managing a small team (~4 people) and/or a small project
  • Able to work independently, with a proactive, risk-mitigation approach
  • Excellent analytical, and flexible problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with Netsuite and/or Salesforce data
  • Familiarity with Tableau Prep, Looker, DBT or advanced SQL
  • Experience with Quality Assurance
  • Experience working with one or more key departments: Operations, Customer Support, Product Management, Sales, Finance
