Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. The team is responsible for building a Cloud data platform that enables teams to create products at scale and power our application modernization plans. You will be part of the team working on company’s architectural modernization effort, building a data platform for analytical processing, as well as transaction processing. We are seeking skilled technologists who have strong technical skills as well as the leadership characteristics required to guide others from a technical perspective. 

You should be passionate about technology, software engineering, data and analytics, quality, and innovatively addressing business problems. You will work with the team to collaborate on software solutions and ensure exceptional software engineering practices, quality, and good documentation. It's essential to be willing to take on new skills to meet the shifting demands of accelerating our modernization efforts to the public cloud, stream-based processing and Kubernetes world. Feedback from the users should be something that you look forward to, as you will work closely with the platform's end users to incorporate their needs into the team’s roadmap and use it as a measure of success. A critical success factor is being viewed as a trusted partner and collaborator, including business and technology stakeholders.

Qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test and implement data and analytics solutions
  • Design, build, and scale infrastructure in Cloud (e.g., AWS) and analytics applications using big data and machine learning technologies
  • Participate in setting the standards for cloud-based initiatives
  • Architect and develop end to end scalable data applications and data pipelines
  • Help build a data lake of disparate data sources
  • Help drive optimization, testing and tooling to improve data quality.
  • Present technical designs of work performed to the various groups (including Development, QA, Product Owner, and the business)


Qualifications

What You Bring to the Table

  • 7 – 10 years minimum years of progressive software development experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with data pipelines, ETL processes and SQL in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets; a track record of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large datasets
  • 3+ years of hands on experience in working on data-centric distributed data platforms like Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka or equivalents
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and automating data & platform services in Public Clouds (AWS, GCP, and Azure) and working on real-time data and streaming applications
  • Strong knowledge of databases, both SQL and NoSQL (Mongo, Cassandra, Yugabyte, etc) and experience with service-oriented and event-driven system architectures. 
  • Have experience with one or more higher level JVM-based data processing frameworks such as Storm, Crunch or Beam. 
  • Advanced level knowledge in at least one languages: Python, Java, etc. 
  • Advanced level of UNIX/Linux OS and scripting skills. 
  • Have experience working with terabytes of data and must understand the challenges of transforming and enriching large datasets
  • Experience with tools to measure data ingestion quality
  • Experience in infrastructure as code technologies, such as Terraform, Helm Charts and CloudFormation
  • Understanding of Agile software development and operating model and understanding of Product Owner and Manager roles
  • Exceptional problem resolution and quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and team communications skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and colleagues across the organization, as well as open attitude about sharing work-in-progress and developing ideas (from yourself and others).
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject. 
  • Knowledge in Docker, Kubernetes is a plus

For job positions in NYC, NY, and other locations where required, the estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $150,000 USD to $220,000 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. You may also be eligible for annual cash incentives, equity and other benefit programs.
