Who You Are
You are an experienced data leader with extensive knowledge of core data platform technologies and a high level of empathy and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally in an organization. You can grasp and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You’re able to manage multiple workstreams and have a track record of doing so. Being able to see the bigger picture, you bring people together to prioritize, craft, and achieve plans.
As the Senior Data Services Engineering Manager at Justworks, you will have the opportunity to develop a team of data engineers and work closely with data scientists and various data stakeholders across the org. You will be responsible for coordinating projects, prioritization, and engineers to create and maintain features for our internal stakeholders. This job requires a strong technical background in data and a real passion for mentoring and growing teams. This role will also support the organization’s growth and progression towards a data-led business by enabling modeling and insights functions.
Your Success ProfileWhat You Will Work On
- Work with data engineers, data scientists, data analysts and business stakeholders to prioritize, schedule and execute projects to ensure data is flowing through our pipelines accurately and reliably
- Build and maintain a modern data infrastructure stack that will enhance data engineers efficiency and streamline product development and delivery across the data organization
- Communicate and coordinate with other teams in and out of engineering to understand the requirements and opportunities for improvement
- Create robust data solutions for complex business challenges and improve team delivery through Agile practices
- Work with stakeholders to define strategic and tactical roadmaps while supporting data and analytics needs
- Build relationships with peers and stakeholders to foster cross-functional/team/department collaboration
- Seek new ways to embed more inclusives practices into our business and our teams
- Provide guidance, both technical and non-technical, to direct reports and leverage each individual’s strengths to optimize execution and delivery
- Ensure accountability and drive engagement by creating an environment where people are motivated to do their best to help the team meet commitments and achieve goals/objectives
- Help recruit, source, interview and hire for the entire engineering team
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Minimum 7-10+ years of professional hands on experience in data engineering, data science or a similar role
- Minimum of 4 years of people management experience (experience building a team, a plus)
- Expert proficiency in SQL and strong understanding of code and scripting languages (Ruby, Python, bash)
- Significant experience leading data architecture projects and driving decisions related to cloud data platforms and pipeline design i.e. Snowflake/Redshift, Fivetran, Glue, dbt etc.
- Strong knowledge of batch and streaming systems, workflow orchestration, monitoring and testing i.e,. Kafka, Spark Streaming, Airflow, etc
- Strong experience with governing data security and compliance
- Strong familiarity with data modeling & analytics engineering best practices
- Strong oral and written communicator, effective at communicating to a diverse set of stakeholders
- Proactively own multiple responsibilities - technology, practices, people, etc
- Ability to think strategically but also be able to do things needed at the moment
- Strong leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
- Solid experience in Agile/Lean practices and working closely with product management
- High levels of empathy and interpersonal skills
- Plus: Experience with developing data architectures to support ML and/or DS needs.

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $235,000.00 to $258,500.00 per year.

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location. Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
