The Role

We are currently seeking a Senior Research Director to join our new Research & Insights organization. The R&I mission is to inform wealth managers and institutional investors on new ways to improve their investment performance, by helping them augment their governance, management, operations, and processes. The goal is to utilize Addepar’s proprietary and private data (both quantitative and qualitative) to bring new and powerful insights to the world of investors.

We are looking for a talented and experienced researcher to use Addepar’s unparalleled access to investors in order to produce truly impactful, important and practical research outputs.

  • You will report to the Head of Research (Ashby Monk) and play a central role in the new R&I organization, assuming responsibility for the end-to-end completion of a handful of critical research projects every year.
  • You will use a variety of tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data. You will develop new models and data-driven insights for publication. You will develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use in R&I publications.
  • You will collaborate with the entire R&I team on collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data, providing input on the team’s agenda and publication plans.
  • You will also write up findings in a variety of different formats (briefs, blogs, working papers, etc.), present on findings in different venues (seminars, webinars, conferences), and publish research in different media (online, journals, books).
  •  You will also be asked to respond to questions about our work from our stakeholders, such investors .

Who You Are

  • You ideally have an advanced research degree (e.g., PhD), with strong methodological grounding in quantitative or qualitative  methods (Note: we will need both quant and qual methods on the team, but applicants need only have deep experience in one.)
  • You have at least five years of experience in a research-related role similar to this one. This would ideally include the following skills:
    • Time-series analysis. Especially financial econometrics, economic forecasting from trend analysis, high-frequency temporal data, etc.
    • Large-scale data engineering. Preferably with massive unstructured datasets and/or streaming data.
    • Experimental design for causal analysis. If no specific experience in causal analysis, then strong experience with formal A-B testing.
  • You have a demonstrated track record of producing high quality research (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, books, policy briefs, etc.).
  • You are a domain expert in institutional investment, with particular focus on investment governance, management, operations, process and decision-making.
  • You are a capable writer that can communicate effectively and work on a team.
