As an Art Director at Known, you have a passion for design and keen understanding of the specific demands of social and digital content. As a member of the Entertainment Marketing & Design team at Known, the Art Director will support the Creative Director with the conceptual and stylistic art direction of social content (static & motion) distributed across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Giphy, as well as digital banners, email blasts, HTML5 and UX/UI design. 

In addition to leading and executing design for the brand, Art Directors are responsible for brainstorming creative concepts with the team, developing original campaigns, and representing the design perspective in client presentations. We’re looking for Art Directors who are excited about social and digital experiences and who understand how to use each unique social platform and digital medium to hit campaign and business objectives.

You have a knack for storytelling and presenting ideas in a way that makes people fall in love. Additionally, you’re collaborative, organized, and accountable, giving proper attention to the detail of your craft as well as bringing your teammates along in the process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the Art Director is to be a visual storyteller and creative problem solver who finds new and unexpected ways to drive results for our clients. We will encourage you to use every tool in your creative arsenal, not just your computer, to create meaningful work that you can be proud of. We build, we draw, we take pictures, we geek out on tech, and we get our hands dirty to bring our ideas to life.

  • Play a hands-on role in the concepting, execution and delivery of outstanding social and digital creative, working collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team and environment (Creative Directors, Designer/Animators, Sr. Designers, Creative Producers, Social Copywriters, etc.) to ensure work is on-brand and stands out amongst the rest
  • Embody a true hybrid visual creative, sitting at the intersection of concept, art direction and design execution
  • Ensure consistency and efficacy of design throughout all creative
  • Design creative from concept to end product with the ability to self-manage multiple projects and tight timelines
  • Work within the client’s established brand guidelines, and also help set the pace for social/digital visual brand guidelines
  • Successfully communicate (present and sell-in) creative ideas, and their rationale by confidently presenting creative to teams, stakeholders, and clients by articulating and rationalizing design decisions with strategic insights and business goals
  • Stay consistently relevant and up-to-date on all design and marketing trends, as well as cultural events in effort to bring fresh ideas, sharing with peers and the broader team
  • Lead and participate in creative brainstorms
  • Appraise and edit your own work, and bring a sharp eye for detail to every round of a project
  • Own the brand’s visual expression for our clients across all social and digital channels maintaining consistency
  • Work closely with project managers and account teams across the life span of a project
  • Bring to life ideas for new business pitches and existing clients, at various levels of fidelity across presentations and production
  • Work effectively with all stakeholders to complete projects within timelines and budget parameters
  • Guide and delegate assignments to Sr. Designers and Designer/Animators, ensuring the prioritization and delivery of tasks 
  • Generate clear ideas and concepts in tandem with Social Copywriter and Creative Producer
  • Be fearless and not afraid to fail

Qualifications:

  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects), Figma, Keynote, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong digital Art Direction portfolio required
  • A natural flare for the unique, the buzz-worthy and the culturally relevant with a willingness to push forward brave ideas
  • The optimism to think bigger, the curiosity to dig deeper, and the passion to do better
  • The ability to adapt to new ideas, processes, and business problems with ease and enthusiasm
  • Obsession of design trends and best practices
  • A professional attitude and an openness to feedback that commands the respect of supervisors, clients, and colleagues
  • An appreciation for the relationship between copy and visual elements (and great design in general). We expect our Art Directors to understand that a product isn’t truly great unless the copy and the design support each other.
  • Eagle eye attention to detail
  • Cross functional design experience necessary 
  • Thought leadership: A strong point of view; ability to contribute to the creative and strategic development of a brand campaign, and the ability to promote conceptual thinking among the team/ability to communicate ideas clearly.
  • Team player with the ability to work with strategist, data scientists and account team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong and dynamic presentation skills
  • A passionate desire to be a part of an agency built for marketing today
  • A love of the data and results and the gamification of the creative to keep pushing for record breaking results in a campaign
  • Strong work ethic
  • A strong agency (or in-house agency) background as well as a proven ability to design and concept for a variety of audiences, brands, and industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret existing brand guidelines and extra points for creating net new guidelines
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously and a great sense of personal time management and organizational skills. 
  • Killer design chops and an understanding of how composition, information hierarchy, color theory and typography work together to drive home a message
  • Proven experience working across teams, both in leading projects and collaborating on work

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Advertising or Graphic Design
  • 5+ years design and/or art direction experience at an agency or in-house agency
