Thrillist is looking for an Art Director who is passionate about digital media and highly skilled at design, typography, and branding. You should be a lover of all things food, drink, travel, and entertainment related. The Art Director will strive to inspire others on the creative team and work with the Creative Director on the design of digital products, video graphics, and larger editorial franchises. You are a design ninja and typography aficionado, who can sketch ideas and communicate intent.

An Art Director at Thrillist should be:

  • Aware of current cultural trends in design, illustration and typography
  • A graphic design ninja and typography aficionado
  • Collaborative and receptive to feedback and direction
  • Able to sketch ideas and communicate intent
  • Comfortable managing both small and large projects
  • Excited about the Thrillist brand and creative potential of our unique content
  • A self-starter with an interest in storytelling and new media
  • Curious, nimble, process driven, and super organized

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Creative Director in building engaging graphics, type treatments and branding for video franchises and digital products
  • Mentoring Illustrators and Graphic Designers on staff
  • Innovating new styles and formats that help define and evolve the Thrillist brand
  • Presenting mood boards, style frames and conceptual ideas to the Creative Director, the Head of Video, and other team members as required
  • Creating smart, entertaining graphic animations, type treatments and maps
  • Assigning and managing freelance illustration and design when required
  • Going beyond what’s expected and challenging themselves to excel on all levels

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree with a focus on Graphic Design
  • 6+ years of art direction and design experience, preferably in an editorial or entertainment environment
  • Proficient in Adobe CC; working knowledge of After Effects preferred and experience creating simple animations in Photoshop, After Effects or other software is ideal
  • Understanding of UI/UX design and working knowledge of Sketch or Adobe XD
  • Extremely creative and an eye for detail
  • Understand the unique Thrillist voice and style
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Collaborative and receptive to constructive criticism
  • Looks at each project as an opportunity for growth
  • Ability to work quickly and smoothly within a fast-paced environment
  • A positive, easy-going attitude, and the ability to keep a sense of humor under pressure
