At Feather, our goal is to fundamentally transform people’s relationship to material goods. In our eyes, the future of things is all about flexibility - having what you need when you need it and never when you don’t. As a designer you see no boundary between form and function and are driven to use design methodologies to solve complex problems. You are highly strategic, detail-oriented, and multi-skilled, bringing a love of design and design systems.

We believe in learning by making – creating and prototyping early and often. Our focus is on the end-user but also on bringing an awareness of both brand and business goals to the table. You’ll work closely with Product Managers and Developers to create innovative and original digital products and services that radically shape a differentiated user experience with Feather extending far beyond the typical transactional e-commerce one and fostering long term relationships with consumers.

You will be tasked with thinking innovatively, evangelising the design process, and maintaining a consistent and cohesive brand look and feel within Feather Customer Accounts. As a Product Designer at Feather, you’ll be joining a fast-paced, innovative team whose passion is delighting and simplifying the lives of our customers. We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated, and inspirational candidate with exceptional strategic product design capabilities focused on creating exceptional, intuitive and delightful experiences for users.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own product design for Feather’s Customer Accounts from strategy and research through to pixel-perfect execution that contributes to the overall design strategy and vision for all of Feather’s digital products.
  • Advocate for scalable design systems and effective design documentation and be a key contributor to Feather’s component design system.
  • Develop straightforward design approaches to complex problems while prioritizing seamless user journeys and end-to-end experiences for customers.
  • Be an advocate for the design team be given problems to be solved and not solutions to be vetted.
  • Think strategically for long-term impact and set up baseline foundational architecture while understanding and taking into account business and technical constraints.
  • Create user flows and mockups to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • Create clear prototypes that can be rapidly shared with stakeholders and/or customers for user testing.
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas, design rationale and the specifics of a user-centered design process to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, account managers, researchers, engineers, and other relevant business owners throughout the entire design and development cycle.
  • Use data to inform the design process and iteration
  • Conduct user research where needed in order to make great decisions.

What you need to be successful:

  • 2-4 years of experience bringing digital products to life (ideally for e-comm or startups).
  • A solid portfolio of product work that can speak to both product thinking and problem solving as well as visual design skills.
  • Able to pitch, educate, and define your design rationale to key stakeholders—you can articulate the ‘why’ and lead discussions around your process, explorations, and conclusions.
  • Able to translate stakeholder goals, user research, and complex user flows into clean, usable interfaces.
  • Solid and up to date understanding of best practices, developments and trends in web, and mobile design.
  • Receive feedback well and can iterate on your designs within a team.
  • Working knowledge of standard design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience with Figma and usertesting.com a plus
  • Love of and belief in Feather’s mission

Who you are:

  • Based in NYC (or willing to move)
  • Excited about joining a small team and growing with Feather
  • Passionate about Feather's mission
  • Eligible to work in the United States

What you’ll get when joining Feather:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Generous health, vision, dental, and ancillary benefits
  • Flexible vacation and paid time off
  • A 50% discount on your own Feather subscription
  • The latest MacBook and a high-resolution external monitor
  • A stylish desk and an ergonomic chair (it's what we do, after all!
