Features Director

| Greater NYC Area

Are you a digital storyteller who believes that editorial features should incite emotion, promote critical thinking, and/or effect change—whether at an individual level or at a greater scale? Do you believe in taking educated leaps on exploring new formats and topics to scale audiences? Do you thrive in collaborative, creative work environments? And do you delight in the intersection of intuition with data to inform decision-making?

Reporting to Artsy’s VP of Editorial and Creative, the Features Director will work at the intersection of editorial and creative and serve as a thought leader on how to elevate storytelling online. This role will lead strategy and programming for our editorial features, with strong emphasis on multimedia content, including the development of sponsored content concepts created in partnership with like-minded brands.

Who we’re looking for:

You are an inspiring and strategic thinker who has demonstrated a skill and passion for longform and multimedia storytelling and belief in high-quality, digital-first editorial experiences. You understand the importance of data in digital media and editorial programming, but don’t let it hold up your decision-making.

You have experience developing and executing digital editorial features that range in mediums, including video, infographic-led data journalism, photo essays, and podcasts. You have played an editorial and integral role in developing these features in past positions.

You have a strong visual sensibility that you can clearly articulate in collaboration with a section editor and creative & visuals team; you are comfortable shepherding stories between these parties, using diplomacy and clear communication to create the most inspiring and effective packaging and reader experiences.

You are an inspiring and patient people manager who believes in building on the strengths of a team member while simultaneously coaching through any weaknesses.

You can skillfully and productively manage multiple projects at once and set clear priorities and related workflow(s) for yourself and collaborators.

You are comfortable acting as a thought partner for section editors in feature development, while simultaneously developing editorial concepts that can be underwritten by like-minded brands. And you can effectively lead inspiring brainstorm sessions with appropriate stakeholders.

You are excited by the idea of elevating and driving holistic programming of our editorial features and brand-underwritten experiences, placing the utmost importance on the Artsy reader and the Artsy brand experience.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • 6+ years in an editorial position and 2+ years experience leading digital features
  • A portfolio of work you’re proud of

  • An understanding of- and passion for art and the art world
  • Proven track record collaborating across teams in an inspiring way

ABOUT ARTSY

Artsy is a global platform for collecting and discovering art.

We think of Artsy less as a business with employees, and more as a community of people who have chosen to work together towards a common goal, and who share a common set of values.

Artsy empowers a global audience to learn about, discover, and collect art. We partner with leading museums, international galleries, auction houses, and art fairs to create the world’s largest marketplace for art, enabling the growth of the entire art market by effectively connecting supply and demand at a global scale.

WHY ARTSY

At Artsy there are no rigid work hours or policies, no pointless bureaucracy. We only care that you achieve inspiring results and are a joy to work with. This means you must be highly energetic, enthusiastic, and resourceful—no problem is too big or too small for you to tackle. You will enjoy both responsibility and autonomy in your work.

WORKING AT ARTSY

Artsy has five core values that will inform your experience at Artsy.

Art x Science: We believe in uniting empathy with logic, emotion with data, and intuition with research in everything we do. Whether in business strategy or design, culture or code, we seek the magic that happens when the often separate worlds of art and science come together.

People are Paramount: We spend extraordinary energy finding the best person for a job—and once found, we give them the trust and autonomy to be CEO of their role. We avoid pointless bureaucracy and prefer to empower people with information rather than limit them with process.

Quality Worthy of Art: We aim to create an experience worthy of all the world’s art and so hold ourselves to the highest standards in all our work. We believe that the best long term quality comes from rapid shipping, iterating, and learning as we go.

Positive Energy: We know positivity and optimism benefit our work, and we harness positive energy as a vehicle towards greater awareness, growth, and collaboration. We believe in cultivating a positive relationship to art as opposed to one based on exclusivity or scarcity.

Openness: We believe in being open with each other and the world—whether in open-sourcing our code, sharing feedback, or building a diverse and inclusive work culture. We believe in bringing our full selves to work and manifesting an open world where everyone has access to art.

Artsy is an equal opportunity employer. We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, disability, and veteran status.
