Primary is a vertically integrated ecommerce brand that is changing how parents shop for kids clothes. We have our sights set on transforming the $30B kids clothing industry in the U.S. We are venture-backed, and building a team of superstars with significant experience across ecommerce, apparel, and technology. We launched mid-2015 to overwhelming press and customer response (82 NPS score), and are on our way to building a break-through brand that can be part of millions of people’s lives. Our founders (both women!) were previously senior executives at Quidsi, the ecommerce company behind Diapers.com, which was acquired by Amazon for $545M.

We are looking for a mid-to-senior level UI designer with UX competence who wants to help build an early stage e-commerce brand. You’ll be involved in every step of the process — researching the best possible solutions, creating user flows, designing high-fidelity UIs, and testing. Experience working within and contributing to a digital design system and knowledge of HTML/CSS is preferred.

Location: NYC - on-site

What you’ll do:

• Develop user flows, prototypes, and final production-ready assets
• Conduct user research and usability testing
• Work with designers and product managers to envision and iterate on concepts
• Work directly with our engineers, delivering product specs and assets
• Work within a style guide/design system, with opportunity to contribute to it as needed.

You are:

• Detail-oriented and organized. A stickler for consistency and systems
• Proactive and able to manage your own workflow
• Opinionated but open-minded. Able to give and receive constructive critique
• Kind & collaborative, with no ego or sharp elbows
• Comfortable in a fast-paced and occasionally ambiguous startup environment

Have:

• 4+ years of UI design and web/interactive work
• Strong digital design background with a portfolio or work samples to show
• Strong familiarity with designing in SketchPrevious experience designing within a design system. Even better if you’ve helped create one!
• Experience designing mobile-first responsive websites. (E-commerce or editorial website experience preferred, but not required.)
• Knowledge of common UI and e-commerce patterns and use cases
• Understanding of and appreciation for web accessibility and site performance
• Excellent communication skills — you should be able to clearly articulate design decisions.
• Some experience with user research and usability testing
• Knowledge of HTML & CSS

Nice-to-have skills:

• UI animationIcon system design
• Style guide/design system development and maintenance
• Knowledge of Bootstrap & Material Design
• Ability to design directly in code
• Previous experience using Zeplin (or similar developer delivery tool)
• Experience with branding
