ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE

theSkimm’s design team is a group of fast-moving and creative thinkers who thrive on creating products Skimm’rs love. Reporting to theSkimm’s Chief Product Officer, the Head of Design will lead our product and brand design teams in bringing theSkimm’s unique voice and value proposition to life for our audience.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Manage and mentor a team of product and brand designers, and grow the team as the company continues to expand
• Develop and maintain a strategic, holistic view of theSkimm’s products and drive towards a cohesive user experience
• Drive innovative thinking and provide vision and strategic direction to the design teams
• Lead a team to design products from scratch, with scale in mind, and launch them to our existing audience of millions of Skimm’rs
• Continuously optimize design processes and how both product and brand design work cross-functionally across the organization
• Collaborate and ideate with stakeholders across product management, engineering, research, editorial, marketing, and sales

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 8+ years of design experience, with a heavy focus on product design and UX
• 3+ years building and leading a highly effective design organization
• Evidence of successful collaboration with product and engineering teams, and using user research and data to steer design thinking
• Strong point of view on how to create high performing design organizations
• Thoughtful and empowering leadership and management style
• Excellent communication skills. You can bring internal stakeholders on your design journey and support your decisions with focus and brevity
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions
• Familiarity and enthusiasm for theSkimm: passion for our audience and mission
• Keen interest in elevating theSkimm’s existing products and bringing new offerings to life
