Why now? 

We are hiring a Head of Design to lead the design, product, and brand. Your opportunity: creating a design practice inside a rapidly scaling, series C-funded start-up based in NYC. The moment you join, you'll have two open design positions to fill as you see fit. We expect you are hiring 2 or 3 more the following year.  

Code Climate operates in a very technology + developer-heavy space. You'll enjoy this role if you've ever coded or worked closely with developer teams before. You are a talented and aspiring designer, creator, and builder. You solve other people's product problems in your head all day. It helps if you have done this at any scale before.

You will be directly responsible for creating a resilient product that helps large companies deliver better software faster. You'll be getting your hands dirty in the beginning setting the product and brand aesthetic. As you build your team of designers, UI + UXers, the role will grow into being the design practice leader and strategist at Code Climate. Think of it as a place to build the team you always wanted.

Examples of Problems You’ll Be Solving: 

• Ensuring the Velocity UI is tip top and ahead of the curve! 
• Concept and execution of the design of everything from our UI to our internal branding and external materials such as websites, landing pages, customer/prospect collateral, decks.
• Design and conduct foundational, formative, and evaluative qualitative and quantitative user research.
• Synthesize and communicate research findings to drive understanding and user insight across the organization.

You’re Awesome Because: 

• You love staying current on emerging design trends, cultural trends and technologies.
• 5+ years of industry experience as a product designer or UI/UX designer.
• Interest and excitement about problem-solving and complex systems.
• Excellent command of research questions within a given domain and of technical tools for the analysis of data within that domain.

Desired Qualifications: 

• You’ve designed for developers and/or experience with B2B SaaS org or scaling start up.
• Ability to design user interfaces, user flows, interactions, and prototypes that bring clarity to complex design problems.
• Leverage quantitative as well as qualitative data to audit and analyze your work and improve product.
• Understands modern front-end engineering tools and practices.
