The Role:

The Instructional Designer will lead the development of anti-racist, culturally responsive content products, aligned to various curricula, that empower our end users to serve the needs of their diverse student body. In this role you will combine your creativity with data, research, and industry best practices to design engaging instructional products. Additionally, you will work closely with key stakeholders within and outside of our content department to develop and design innovative solutions for producing at scale. You will also design, develop, and implement a sustainable and efficient process for training content contributors on existing and new curriculum product offerings.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

In this role, you will help define how Newsela is reshaping curriculum products for districts, schools, and teachers. Your passion for serving students and teachers, coupled with your creative and innovative approaches for designing instructionally sound resources, will help propel our product forward. Your work will directly affect how teachers and students interact with Newsela, and in turn help deepen the impact of our mission to make reading accessible and engaging for all learners. You will be part of the team driving our anti-racist curricular strategy for future content production, equipping educators with the content and tools necessary to deliver representative, culturally responsive instruction.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have experience either teaching, or building instructional content for the classroom, and are excited to apply your expertise to building innovative, culturally-responsive solutions for the classroom. Additionally, you’ve had direct training in anti-bias/anti-racist teaching.  You are a life-long learner, committed to always understanding before jumping into action. You have a proven track record of delivering even when the tasks seem impossible, and you do through collaboration, planning, and execution. You are a clear communicator who can give direct, empathetic feedback and can succinctly share your insights about the complex world of teaching and learning. This communication prowess translates to your proven success record of working with adult learners to coach them on learning targets and execution.
